I wonder if he realizes his beloved Pat Dye had a losing record his first year at Auburn and lost to 4-7 Wake Forest.

I wonder if some of these folks know to go inside when it starts raining so I am doubtful.

just me, but i think the greatest figure in all of sports should be a player, not a coach.

quote:Nope. I'm saying the GOAT coach shouldnt be losing to ULM. Chizik didn't even lose to them in 2012 when they were actually good. The GOAT would be better than anyone else in the same situation as them. Saban loses to teams that supposedly lesser coaches beat with less talent. That's not GOAT.
So you are saying that 1 loss to ULM cancels out 5 National Championships

So does that 1 loss you keep referring to cancel out holding the record for # of wins against top 3 opponents?

Oh, wow. I just saw your reply. Go to bed

quote:I didn't claim Dye was the GOAT. On the other hand, Bama fans claim everything that comes from UA the GOAT. Saban might be winning there now but Bama fans claimed the same crap when Shula was there. Saban isn't the best game day coach and therefore isn't the GOAT. Put Urban in the same situation and you would be talking about how many straight NCs he had won.

quote:Nope but a few good years at a major school doesn't make you the GOAT either. It just means they were in the right situation at the right time. There are plenty of coaches that could beat top 3 teams all day with that much talent.

Just check the number of people that disagree with the OP. That shows that its mostly just Bama fans that believe he is the GOAT just like they do with every other coach and player they ever get.

Is this where John Wooden is mentioned?

I only read the first and last page of this but the reason the OP has so many downvotes is because it's absurd. Looking at his post count I'm inclined to believe he's a troll.
As far as us talking up Shula, so what? Show me a fanbase that doesn't talk up a new coach. Everyone knew that Bama over-performed in '05 and when he returned to form in '06, he was gone.

I'm not on here claiming the guy is the absolute greatest sports figure of all time but he is getting to that level to be discussed as far as college football coaching goes.
Look I fully get your hatred for the guy and Alabama. I understand it. Does not in any way shape or form change the fact that he has Alabama on a run that is only rivaled by Notre Dame run during the war era.
You can come up with all the shoulda coulda woulda's you want to, but you are still witnessing college football history whether you want to admit it or not.
Be prepared to hear the name Saban for quite some time as being one of the GOAT's because he's yet to show any signs of slowing up.

Another natty may put him in the discussion as that would tie him with Bryant as the most decorated coach in CFB history with 6. If he wins 2 more, then this talk might gain more traction but there will always be a wide variety of opinions on a topic like this.
