It's called catering to your audience. Not unusual, politicians do it.
I'm sure he's quite aware Ole Miss isn't in the same stratosphere as Alabama academically.

I don't think it is a big deal as he was speaking at the Ole Miss graduation. Probably more surprised he didn't take a swipe at MSU during his speech. Overall though, a good dig by Brokaw
