Not a bit. I'm amused at the Arkansas confidence.

You know what? I'm not that confident that we are going to win the game. There's no reason we should. This year.

However, as the late great 'Sporty' Carpenter said when the lowly (at the time) UAM Bollweevils defeated the nationally ranked Henderson St. University Reddies - 'Lighting struck the outhouse, and we were in it'.

Is it impossible that Arkansas could sneak out of there with a win? No! Likely? No!

But I will say this, I expect a tougher, closer game than last year. I'm sure Gus does too. Your team better as well.

History will tell, of course, but I 'think' we made a good hire. Has has a blueprint the he's building to, and it's plain to see progress towards that. Now whether that plan will ultimately result in an SEC championship remains to be seen. Thus far however, it appears to be a good plan.

All joking and BS aside, the HUNH, video, sickle cell anemia, and the other stuff is just for fun. But one thing that does bug me is this "building for the future" stuff.

If I'm a scholarship player and I'm hearing this, I would be absolutely pissed and asked to transfer to a program that wants to win now. Whatever you think about Malzahn, when he went to Auburn he had two quarterbacks, Frazier.... and the other guy (Wallace?), anyway that's what he inherited and it was his responsibility to find a quarterback (and others) that would allow this team to win Now. And that's exactly what he said he was going to do when he was introduced as the head coach.

In midseason, after the LSU loss they changed game plans on the O side. And it worked! And they won! He inherited a team that went 0-8 the previous season, no quarterback, and one of the worst defenses in the SEC. Not bad as a first year head coach, and it wasn't luck.

After all that I have one question. Did Gus have the correct players in place to run his system?

There was a HUGE difference in what Gus walked in to and what CBB walked in to.
And no, CBB has never said 'let's win in the future', in fact he has talked about 'winning now' too. Gus didn't coin that phrase.

Bottom line is

A.) There wasn't a wholesale change in philosophy when Gus walked in, the players for 'his' system (save maybe the QB) were already in place and had run that system somewhat before.

B.) CBB's philosophy is considerably different than Petrino's and very few of the pieces were in place.

Gus had a much easier task ahead of him than CBB.

You hog fans have a hard time accepting the fact Gus is a great coach.

Were we talking about whether Gus was a great coach? Must have missed that.
Personally I think he is a good coach, but time will tell if he's 'great'.

However if you think Gus's situation and CBB's situation were even REMOTELY the same, then I'm wasting my time conversing with you.

Pretty sure last year y'all were convinced Arky would have a better season than auburn AND beat auburn. Then of course after the season we hear these type excuses. Just saying.

With the rate that Dodge Chargers are getting pulled over in the Deep South will Auburn have enough scholarship players to have any depth for the season opener?
