then think about this. (maybe we have 100% rational AU fans here)

You would have to think that 5 people, two of them coaches, one a successful business person, would risk their careers, reputations and lively hood to get together and decide to create a wild story about how Cecil Newton came to them asking for money for his son.

So they called each other and decided to make up a story where Newton wants $180k (worked up the payment plan too). Of course they had to rehearse the story and make sure they were on the same page.

What would their motivation be to expose themselves to the intensity of the national media, have to get lawyers, have the FBI and NCAA investigate every aspect of their lives? I can imagine the death threats and hate mail that they have received. Would it be money? Don't think so. Would it be to advance their careers? No way. Or could it be sour grapes over Newton going to Auburn? Possibly, but what how do you get 5 successful people to commit to drastically changing their lives over sour grapes?

So Cecil Newton comes out and says he mentioned money but never asked for any? Right. People go to jail based on less evidence. You get 5 professionals to testify that a crime took place and the defendant says that he just talked about the crime but never meant to commit it? It would take an unbiased jury 10 min. to convict him.

So hopefully all Auburn fans realize that Cecil was pimping his son for $180k and the MSU contingent should be applauded for exposing this scheme for what it was.

+ they wanted their Alma Mater to get investigated by the NCAA & FBI. Go figure.

You would think but remember, I'm getting the impression the media and possibly the SEC and the NCAA are looking for any possible way to save Cam and keep him eligible because they want the ratings and the story. How can you explain the "defense" of these characters? Ahh-there was a discussion about money but I did ask for it? It really doesn't say he would be ineligible at any school other than Miss State. Cam wasn't aware.
I'm thinking nothing will happen!!!

Wouldn't the same assumption be made that whoever paid Cam to come to Auburn those people would be risking their careers and livelihoods as well?

I'm surprised you could read that with your head up Cam's arse. Stay there, it's your safe place.

Cecil definitely shopped him. AU's case isn't built on the fact that he wasn't...

Completely different. They would have a motivation to pay Newton because of the bonuses and success they would get to have him. You have to remember that Bama turned the tables on AU and was dominating Auburn. They had everything to gain.

Dude nobody had a clue Newton would be this good. It wasn't even a total cinch he would be the starting QB. For a bunch of young coaches with multiple millions of dollars to be made between them they had FAR more to lose than they had to gain.

As dumb is it would be it happens that players are paid for at great risk.
However, I think the point is that it's a lot less likely for so much to risked to fake a story to get the Newton's into trouble.

And for what it's worth, while it seems pretty clear Cecil was shopping Cam and it would be shocking if Cam didn't know I'd guess that that's about all that there was to it. No evidence at all AU paid.

He was a prime target for you and fits your offense perfectly. The coaches wanted him bad.

Which is why everyone at Auburn is bravely shouting from the rooftops: "NO COMMENT!"
