I played soccer when I was a lad. Along with football baseball track and basketball. I just liked playing sports. I quit soccer before jr high though.

As a dad, I'd much prefer that he is well educated. Secondly, it depends on his Frame. I'm only 6' 200 (220 when I worked out a lot) so I'd probably work him in at QB. My wife and I were both athletic and are competitive so if he anything like us QB would be a good spot for him.

I was a good OLB and TE with good hands but a 6" 220 white boy who runs a 4.8 isn't anything to note. QB is a position that can be taught and where a certian frame/40 time is required.

After years of putting the agite together or checking the pages and noticing the box scores and money won by golfers, along with knowing the longevity of one's career, that is one of the most lucrative and also maybe one the most rewarding sports for a child. Look at how much the last place person gets paid when they become pros.

And, as kids, they pull girls and many times boys up to high school teams from middle school. Plus, if you make a high school team, you have a good shot at a college scholarship somewhere.

The sport teaches kids a lot about life, it's outdoors, teaches them a lot of positive disciplines.

Ever seen a kid play golf for the first time at a very young age? They get to hit the ball. Go chase it, maybe even explore the woods or whack at it out of a sand trap. Then, they realize it goes into a hole! It blows their freaking mind.

My boy is four, is already 4'+ and weighs like 55 lbs. He is the next Luke Joeckel if he wants to be. I chose not to play college football to pursue an engineering degree at A&M, and he may do the same but he damn sure is going to play football in Jr High and HS... He's an OT/DT like his old man.

He's also going to learn golf and rugby. He has no chance of playing soccer. One, he's too clumsy right now and two, no way in hell I let him play soccer. Too hard on big guy's knees. His little sister can play soccer, she's a little jitterbug and probably more of a pure athlete anyway.

I've already got my eye on a kids nike bag/set. It's only $100 at academy. I wish I could get adult nike golf sets for that price.

I'm teaching both my kids to play golf. I played in college and it's a sport you can play your entire life.

It's the only sport that I'm kind of pushing. If they have interest in others I will support but I won't push. I played most everything growing up because I wanted to. My parents never pushed me and I won't push mine.

My little boy (6) started playing tee-ball and coach pitch last year. He was the youngest on his t-ball team and wasn't the best but one of the better players. I was pretty dang proud.

I'm not going to be like tiger wood's dad and push the frick out of him or anything but that's something that you can do with your kid. Great bonding/1 on 1 time with your kid and something you can do together until you're crippled.

My father in law got my wife and B/SIL lessons when they were young for this very reason.

Soccer increases foot speed and coordination. Great sport for the little ones while they are learning the other sports. Trust me on that one... I got the proof.

I didn't teach him this, but my son is a junior and plays lacrosse. He loves it, and actually, after watching the play, I can see why:

He plays on the defensive side, and it sure looks like a blast to play. Basically, they run what looks like a basketball pressing defense, with the ability to lay some free-safety hits, all the while swinging 6 ft metal sticks "at the other player's sticks" with incidental contact on the other guy's body... as the other player has their stick at body level. I'm sure there are limits to how rough you can be as I've seen a few penalties called, but basically, if it isn't obvious the refs let them play (they have helmets and light padding).

And skill. Kicking a soccer ball properly is a lot harder than shooting a basketball or catching a football. I'd equate it to hitting a baseball, actually.

soccer may save your boy from a shamed life of morbid obesity. You may want to get him signed up for your local youth league ASAP.

On my kids first birthday, he will get a soccer ball, football, basketball, tennis racket, and golf clubs.

We will see what takes.

If he's 6'4 or taller he'll be a TE

If he's 6'1-6'3 he'll be a LB or safety

If he's 6'0 or shorter he'd better earn an academic scholarship
