In the south almost everybody is a Christian, not because of anything they actually believe, but because of social expectations. It's weird.

Acting very religious is a great way to gain free favor in the south. It's very popular among politicians and football coaches. Nobody actually expects you to walk the walk and you better win football games, but it can sometimes buy you an extra year. In the case of richt, an extra decade.
