I personally think Gus is a better percussionist than drummer

But he's definitely a talented musician.

nailed it AUT45 - should we be clamoring for change before the season starts? I say Gus should just run the offense and have Rhett focus on coaching the QB's only

Can you call in any favors to the brass and get this done before Clemson?

Yes, Arkansas has a history of bad coaches

Might want to rethink that one

Except he can't actually coach QBs. Gus made the guy who could coach QBs recruit and coach WRs poorly.

Great thread, HRV. You are a genius.

Folks should not forget how Gus invented the Hurry-up No-Huddle while torching high school teams in Arkansas. The guy has a blockbuster book and video. It changed the way football is played.

I expect the Guster will move Rhett out and hire the Pulaski Academy HS coach from Little Rock as the OC. The guy's name is Kevin Kelly. His team is winning state championships without ever punting, always do an onside kick, and always go for two.

LINK

This is the future of Auburn football. It will be interesting to watch.

He has like 12 different onside kick formations.

Central Pork, you and Boar Ed have been upvoted

I believe Kevin Kelly will do very well in Opelika

I just hope Jay Jacobs continues to treat Gus well. I believe a two year warning should be declared and that Jay and Pat and Bobby and Yella Fella should openly declare Gus safe until at least 2018

Honestly, Harry Rex, I'm not sure if the rest of the SEC West could handle a duo like that. Kevin Kelly is some sort of mad genius. You know, it's not that his teams WON'T punt, or kick the extra point, it's that his teams are never in a position where they NEED TO. Big difference.

Apparently he has the game broken down by down and distance in relation to any point on the field, at any point during the game, and depending on what the score is in the game. He has done an in depth statistical analysis on each and every possible different scenario and has spit out some sort of odds of success for each one. He coaches his games according to a chart and he never deviates from that chart. It's like Moneyball high school football. And apparently he IS raking in the money. I guess he was on National TV not too long ago explaining his goobledygook other coaches or some such.

Anyways, long story short, if Auburn wants to experience REAL success, they should consider replacing Lashlee with Keven Kelly, and force Gus to run his system. Gus is familiar with this condition, as I'm aware it was one of HIS conditions upon taking the offensive coordinator job at the University of Arkansas.

I don't remember Houston Nutt/Gus Malzhan running the HUNH/fast pace offense with Mitch Mustain....I remember them running the Wild Hog (wildcat) but I don't remember them using Gus' hunh system at Arky.

They really didn't. The Arkansas fans would be more familiar with it, but I believe Gus wanted to throw the ball a lot more and Nutt (rightfully so) wanted to run more with the studs he had at RB. I don't think Gus has ever said aloud, but the rumor was that Nutt totally shut down his offense when they got to the SEC Championship.

Believe this is about right, Mustain also added to the drama between them.

Good observation, RT1941.

The only time I recall it being run in 2006 was at the end of the arse whipping we got from USC. All the coaches hated Gus. They picked on him and called him names. He bolted in 2007 and became a great coach earning a bunch of money.

Reggie Herring publicly stated that Gus's offense wouldn't work here. Not against the likes of USC, or anyone else for that matter, because it was too gimmicky and too high school.

Nutt SAID he was going to utilize some of Gus's offense here, but like everything else that happened around that time, what was said, and what actually transpired were two totally different things.

They did run the Wild Cat, which I believe was a wrinkle to the run game that Gus devised, but Nutt claimed it for his own.

Nutt is a real piece of work.

But I digress. We are getting off point here. The topic is what is Gus Malzahn going to do about his Lashlee problem?

Nutt shut him down at halftime of the Bama game - game four I think

Funniest part of the whole thing is that the only part of Gus's offense that Nutt actually incorporated, WERE the gimmick plays.

And then he tried to pass it all off as his own.

Gus has it tough. Don't forget he has to deal with Kristi. That ain't easy. Appears she is going under some transformations.
