I thought Mett had NFL bust all over him at the draft. He's a one-read QB who locks on to his receiver and can rarely check down. He had almost zero pocket presence combined with being glacially slow. Not a good combination. He also seemed to be a social negate with very little connection with his teammates. I always thought Landry and Beckham, Jr. made Mett, not the other way around.

Christ you're stupid

Yeah,I did. This revisionist history of LSU fans that Mett was some kind of franchise QB is puzzling. It's not like he racked up mind boggling numbers in Baton Rouge his last season. And even Rantards commented on how he was almost cut off from his team when he would isolate himself on the bench.

Tiger fans that got mesmerized by the one or two throws a game he would make a game are like hoops fans who see a college kid win a dunk contest. "ZOMG! He's gonna tear up the league!"

I always thought Mett was a poor man's Ryan Mallett.

For an LSU QB, yea, it was. 3082 yds, on 296 attempts 10.4yds/att. 22td/8int. Best we have seen here in a LONG time. Agree about his statuesque poster in the pocket, hope he has worked on that with NFL coaching, great arm and deadly accurate. I think he will do well as long as he gets the ball out in under 3 seconds.

I don't know that I have ever seen a player so horribly misevaluated. Basically every commentator who broke him down was just drooling over his passing ability. Iirc, he led the nation in completions beyond 10 yards. FROM A LES MILES OFFENSE. Heck, he even looked good in the preseason. Poor man's Ryan mallett? Good grief

The stats cited above counter your assertion that he checked down a lot. You don't average 10+yds/Att throwing bubble screens and check downs. I never said the kid couldn't sling it. But at LSU he had two WRs that out-classed 90% of the DBs they faced. (BTW, love Landry on the Fins) He's not going to have that luxury in the NFL. I just think he has a limited skill-set and the one skill he has (huge arm) is way down the list of importance of what makes a successful QB. It just happens to be the one skill that visually captures people's imagination.

NFL QBs with huge arms are like PGA pros who are long off the tee. A great skill only as long as you have the rest of the game.

I'm trying to think of how this could be any more wrong, but I am failing.

You know nothing. First of all, if Landry and Beckham were that much more talented than the DB's they face, why did they have so much trouble catching the ball in 2012?

And as far as checkdowns, educate yourself on the Air Coryell offense before showing your arse. Cam teaches his quarterbacks to look at the longest reads first, and those will always be Beckham and Landry. Sure, screens and short passes have a place in his game, but why would you check down when you have two receivers that you can trust to catch anything within 5 yards?

not necessarily.

the one skill he has
so he was as good as anybody at long throws because he merely threw the ball into space and lsu receivers just happened to be there more often than not? Or was it because he made good decisions?

Remind me to never have you draft for me in fantasy.
