Back when Rebs were still The Flood and Sewanee was still with us Kentucky was at the center of what the SEC formation
No Kentucky no SIAA (the mother of the SEC) as the guy that started the SIAA was from Kentucky
No Kentucky and no SEC as the first head of the SEC was the UK president
No Kentucky and no Bear Bryant as he cut his teeth at UK before TAMU and Bama

Ohio Ocean is still a great barrier to the north, while the Cincy MSA may have some OH elements, clearly Louisville (now in the ACC) is full of southern IN elements.

Like he said we already have the reputation in football. And conference rep matters a lot more for basketball considering getting teams into the tournament.
The more the entire league plays better, the more teams we can get in.
