I have confidence that Mississippi State will move on from Arnett

I think the writing is on the wall and the big de-commit today sealed his fate. Rumors abound. National writers are discussing Arnett as a defensive coordinator target for USC. I'm going to be surprised if we aren't hiring a coach this year.

GJ Kinne is the name that was discussed on the radio this morning as a hot option.

Don't know much about him. He was at Arkansas for a season and was the offensive coordinator at UCF. Current coach at Texas State.

Lance Leipold and Mike Elko should be your top targets!

I agree you have to make Leipold and Elko say no, but I'm being realistic about who State can attract.

Maybe Jonathan Smith? Zero ties to the South though.

Jon Sumrall is a gamble but he's got the traditional resume.

Tom Herman would be my choice but I don’t know if he would be a good cultural fit in Starkville

He is currrntly 5-3 at Texas State. He had one good season at incarnate word.

34 years old. Seems a risky hire, not a lot of experience and no recruiting connections.

I’d go after Leipold or Elko first. Throw some money after them. We could double Elko’s 3.5 million salary

If we fire Arnett we need a proven HC that fans can be excited about. Whoever it is will have to rebuild the program and will need time. We lose a lot next season and recruiting is not good.

Hiring a young and unproven HC will not only be risky, it will be an uphill battle in recruiting and fans wont be patient due to lack of confidence. Need someone to get excited about and that understands how to utilize to portal to rebuild faster, and someone who gets average talent to play above their heads.

Leipold and Elko fit this mold. I’m worried our fans are falling back into the old MSU mindset of we can’t get a proven HC. Mullen and Leach proved we can get a good coach and keep him several years. Open the wallets up and throw some money at a proven guy

if we don't cut bait, this guy will sink us well beyond next season. he is completely lost.

Both would be homerun hires if state could pull them.

From Ole Coach 34 state has some major nil issues. can you pull a coach like that and give them the NIL they would ask for?

This is the problem. Without a war chest to recruit, the coach doesn't matter. You can't get talent to compete. Right now State is just trying to get the ball rolling on NIL and they are way way way behind compared the the top half of the conference.

Sounds like they spent a little to much on the left field condo's.

NIL comes from fans. Their whole mantra for the last 2 decades is that State doesn't pay players but the cheatin' black bears do. So now that it is legal they can't wrap their head around it. But yes, they paid players just like everyone else in the SEC did.

Not sure State could pull these two. I know its Kansas and Duke but not sure State is that big of a step up.
Probably looking more at a Ryan Grubb type or Curt Cignetti.

You got Mike Leach. You had Dan Mullen. State can attract and pay a good up and comer or proven HC.

But I hope y’all don’t.

Post Covid coaching world is different. First question in the interview of a potential coach is "What is the NIL budget?".
