You’re right. I was actually thinking of Bryant Smith, but called him Robinson because I was confusing him with 1990s Auburn defensive back, Brian Robinson.

Correct. That 1999 team was absolutely nasty.

And got as far as Bama did this year…

Actually, our 2018-19 team is our best team ever.

They won the SEC Tournament Championship and the Midwest Regional Championship in the NCAA Tournament by beating these three historically patsy basketball programs: Kansas, North Carolina and Kentucky. We lost by one point to the eventual champion in the semifinals.

Our team last year was highly rated because of some very talented, but young and inexperienced players. That lack of experience and maturity cost us late in the season. Sadly, we had to settle on just winning the SEC Championship.

The 2018-19 team would have whipped last year’s team by double digits…as would our 1998-1999 team that was a #1 seed that also lost in the Sweet 16.

Hope that helps soothe your wounds…

ETA: I actually agree with TeddyWestside. Our “best” team is probably the 98-99 team while our most “accomplished” team was 2018-19.

I’m good either way….

The 1999 team was Auburn’s best (and had a 1 seed to reflect that). Unfortunately, Scoonie Penn lit Auburn up in the sweet 16, and Auburn turned the ball over too much.

It’s a shame that Auburn’s two best teams haven’t lived up to expectations in the tournament, but at least it’s not alabama’s consistently comical dick tripping in the sweet 16.

Quite funny!

What's quite funny is that 13 hours after Bama's best team in history is eliminated from the round of 16 - Auburn is on your mind.

EarlyCuyler3 would be proud

The Final Four run in 2019 almost makes up for it for Auburn fans, I’m sure. Probably Auburn’s like fifth or sixth best team ever, but accomplished the most.

That’s college basketball for you, though. Sometimes better teams peak in February, and then teams that only seemed decent come out of nowhere and light up the NCAA tournament.

Auburn’s 1999 team went on 15-0 runs faster than you could even imagine. It was insanity watching that team play. If we could have stopped Scoonie Penn in the S16 they would have been playing on Monday night I’m certain.
