I still don't understand why a lot of people in the media keep citing that the award is for what you do on the field only, and no matter what Cam Newton was the best player on the field this year. Well, if that's the case then why doesn't Reggie Bush still have his? He was clearly the best player on the field then, but apparently integrity only comes into effect when it's on the agenda. God I can't for this kid to go away and get crushed in the NFL.

Its a shame that such a great player will be forever tainted...

a) Cam Newton has not yet been proven guilty (whether or not he will be is an entirely different argument), whereas Reggie Bush was proven guilty and his alma mater was punished for his actions.

b) As I remember it, Reggie sort of just gave the Heisman back. It wasn't taken from him. It may have gotten to that point, but it wasn't there yet.

Newsflash: the media is inconsistent and they forget what they said yesterday. They are the kings of doublestandards. Don't expect consistency. It will never happen.

Reggie wasn't proven guilty. All that was proven was that his family and his girlfriend received benefits from people related to the program indirectly. He may or may not have known about it, but nothing in the NCAA rules suggests that the player had to have known about it.

Zero hypocrisy.

It states in the rules to win, a player must be eligible.

Reggie was ruled ineligible in his Heisman season.

We may all(cept Auburn fans) think Cam should be ruled ineligible but he was not.

Cam will win, but there will be some voters that decide to vote for someone else because Cam probably cheated and probably knew what his dad was doing.

Or OJ Simpson? The answer has to do with eligibility. Reggie was ruled ineligible. I don't care one way or the other.

The NCAA says otherwise.

Not sure why you mention OJ. OJ's actions occured after his college career (unless there's something I don't know about). Cannon took money before he completed his college career at LSU.

On or Off

Did Hershel Walker win his Heisman for what he did on or off the field?

Did Bo Jackson win his Heisman for what he did on or off the field?

Did Charles Woodson win his Heisman for what he did on or off the field?

Did Matt Leinert win his Heisman for what he did on or off the field?

Did Tim Brown win his Heisman for what he did on or off the field?

but bush's family did receive money. as of right now, no evidence has come out to show that the Newtons actually received anything. that is the biggest difference between this and reggie bush

Reggie signed his agents credit card receipt for a weekend in Vegas. Eligibility.....gone. Yes he was proven guilty. The NCAA ruled him ineligible. Plain simple fact.

Yes Reggie Bush gave it back, but it would have been taken from him had he not done that.
All I'm saying is I'm tired of people saying that despite the fact his family shopped him around for money, which there's no way he didn't know, he still deserves it. I'll be the first one to say he's an amazing football player. But to take Reggie Bush's away for things his family received and then to give it to Newton is ridiculous.

All eligibility aside, if "character" is included in the voting process, then neither should have it. But if it's simply on field production, then let them both have it.

Really?

He was proven to have accepted over $200k in illegal benefits.
