Recruiting is the lifeblood of the program. Any opinion outside of this is moronic. You can't coach height weight speed and strength.

He's been a fan of whoever we are playing each week so far this year

To be fair...a lot (I mean a lot) of our posters here INCORRECTLY assumed that our stud DLine 2013 class would be able to contribute immediately and be effective. They were absolutely wrong ... it takes time to development the strength to play in the trenches against OLine's which typically never go pro until at least their JR year but most play for 4 years and don't start until they are JR/SR's. There is too much of a maturity (physical) gap for 99% of them to overcome.

That said, the OP is still wrong... they are just young. He's correct because there were a bunch of A&M ranters spouting off about how good our DLine class was. I seem to remember people saying there would be a falloff but not the falloff that we've experienced.

Snyder can coach...he just doesn't have the horses.

Hmmmm... TAMU continues recruiting top defensive talent = inability to field a quality defense?

Oh, ok.

A&M is building a defense with 4 star talent or better across the board, and that hasn't happened in a long time. However, those recruits are young. Just picked up Myles Garrett today, and he will start next year. He's already bigger than any DE we have on the roster, and could play for us tomorrow if allowed.

Give Garrett some time, along with Hall filling out - kid looks like a string bean at 240 lbs... DT is going to be a strength as well. In less than two years, A&M will field a DL that is SEC worthy. We will also need some DEPTH along the front, as the starters aren't bad but there is nothing behind them. If Hoza makes it in then the whole front seven will be SEC worthy.

Takes time to build a good defense, especially when all the upperclassmen are simply not that talented to start with.

Bama and LSU are smash mouth physical teams. They are predicated on winning battles in the LOS. That's who they are. Unless A&M becomes a physical O their D will never be so.

Have you seen our O line? I hear they have been pretty decent the past 2 years.

Depends on the new coach next year.

It will be a guy named Sumlin. Why do you ask?

A&M will never have a good defense because they are A&M. It's not in their DNA.

That's all fine, but the OP isn't an Auburn fan.

So if you switched Alabamas defensive players and defensive coaches with A&M's defensive players and coaches, A&M would still suck arse on Defense and Bama would be pitching shutouts?

This is not created overnight. With Bama's coaching and philosophy a D with aTm's players may not be top notch but at least it would be more physical and better against the run.

My favorite SECr posts are the ones where posters make unequivocal, "expert-like" comments regarding issues about which no one (except The Big Guy) has the slightest clue.

It 's an opinion, but an informed one. Tell me one pure spread team (either the Oregon zone read kind or the Mike leach pass happy type) that has at the same time fielded a true elite D like LSU, Bama, usc an the likes have fielded at one point or another the las 10 or so years. Just one name, I can't think of a single one. Oregon has been good on D at times... But elite not even close.

Texas in 2005 had a good defense and didnt run a pro-style smash mouth offense. It wasn't up-tempo, but it definitely wasnt power I either.
