They are a top school for academics and Atlanta is basically the capitol of the South. If we leave them out the Big 10 will gladly snap them up to have some turf in the region. Also was a founding member of the SEC.

Am I wrong here?

I think so. They add nothing in terms of brand or viewership.

Ga Tech would never want to join the SEC. Academics are far more important than sports at that institute

You are very wrong. They bring nothing to the conference, and as for their being a founding member, they chose to leave.

There's actually some light chatter about UGA dropping them from the schedule.

Yes.

The problem with Tech is they have almost no fans in any sports. Their students care less about sports than nearly any other P5 school, and their alumni don't support them much either. They don't have local non-college grad support as that all goes to UGA.

They aren't all that different than Emory or Mercer if you add a team in Atlanta. Perhaps behind Kennesaw State in terms of sports support. I really don't see a need to block Atlanta by taking GT any more than I would with taking those schools.

I mean you can look at a map and think it would work... but if you have any familiarity with the school you realize it won't.

But then again, the Big 10 thought taking Rutgers would bring them NYC TV's, so they could try it anyway. It would work about the same.

I’d love to see Tech back in the SEC, but I really don’t see it. They might get shuffled out of major college athletics during this round of expansion. They can’t complain too much when they haven’t invested in or cared about athletics for at least the last 40 years.

Big 12 may be GeorgiaTech’s landing spot. Add:

Louisville
NC State
Virginia Tech

If GT gets back in, so does Tulane. Good schools but they left so bye bye...

Really?

Playing games in ATL is similar to all the teams who play games in Orlando or Tampa. It gives you additional exposure in the area which helps with recruiting.

Or do Georgia fans all of a sudden not think recruiting is the end all be all in college football?

(Still talking to UGA fans)

I know you hate Tech, but them going to the Big 10 could be very meaningful to the conference. They are already spread coast to coast, so being present in the South would be beneficial to them imo.

I wouldn't. Not in a million years would I make that swap.

Yeah it was a bitter thing, but all those people are gone and their kids are retired. And we have seen how long something like that will last when money is involved.

Take Texas and Texas A&M for instance. 10 years later it's all good.

I've met some Georgia Tech coeds down through the years at the Cheetah Club
