Two of Alabama’s 11 current commitments for the class of 2013 come from Georgia. In addition to the eight Georgia natives he signed last year, Saban inked two in 2011, five in 2010 and five in 2009. That’s 20 Georgia signees in the last four years with more on the way

But also playing a possible role in Bama’s success recruiting Georgia kids — Saban’s decision to open the 2008 and 2009 seasons in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta. In case you didn’t know it, the Tide is already lined up to open its 2013 and 2014 seasons back in downtown Atlanta, too, against Virginia Tech and an opponent to be determined.

Wondering if playing in Jerry World will help get a Tx kid or two in the future as well. I don't expect many, but a couple a year would be nice, especially when the big time recruits are down in-state.

I'm sure it will.

It won't matter. Bama gets players from GA because of proximity and Kirby Smart, not because they played in Atlanta once or twice

Currently there are 54 (64%) in-state players on the Alabama's roster

14% (12) Georgia

And because they're good.

Recruiting Texas is a slightly different animal. I don't think the game at Jerryworld will do much to sway Texas recruits. However, you have to figure that Bama's success, on the field and in loading the draft, will allow us to pull recruits from Texas at some point. IMO

I don't think the Atlanta games had nearly as much to do with this transformation as you're insinuating.

I think its just the leadership you have and the obvious forward direction you have that is allowing you to take who you want from neighboring states and beyond.

I know. With the Aggies in the SEC now and seeing the product Bama puts on the field, I'm hoping it will help with some big time guys though. Can sell the, play in the SEC and still come home to play in front of your folks while at Bama, I hope.

They aren't in the ACC.

I personally love it being that I was born and raised in metro Atl.

We needed to hit GA hard, someone told me the other day that metro Atl has more people in it than the entire state of AL.

These kids are starting to wake up and say "I can go to UGA and celebrate a 10 win season like it's a NC, or I can go to UA and actually win NC and get the Saban bump in the the NFL draft."

I think it may have played a small part. Dismantling Clemson and Va Tech and then offering kids watching those games, surely helped some.

Auburn also has 12 Georgia kids representing 14% of the roster, my bet the percentage is down in relationship to the Tigers squad's hometown a decade ago

They have to be ACC? Didn't AU decline to play UCLA in the game a couple of years ago?

ACC sucks. Not really excited about another VT game. If it must be ACC, FSU needs to be paid back.

I could see y'all landing a couple big time 5* type recruits every couple years, but I think it's going to be hard to sign 20 players over a 4 year course like that, at least right away. Maybe in time. Texas HS football is really big on building relationships with HS coaches and through the 7 on 7 circuit over a period of time more so than other states it seems. This is why we are just now recovering from the damage Fran did to those relationships with so many big time Texas HS programs. Playing a game here on a pretty regular basis will definitely help though.

Just looked it up and I was wrong. It does not have to be ACC/SEC only.

My mistake.

ETA: Every game so far except the UGA/Boise game has been ACC/SEC, including the two games they host this year.

I think the matchups mattered, and the W's, but not the venue nearly as much.

The 2008 opener was a statement win and you never looked back. But even I forget it was in Atlanta until this thread came up, and I was <5 miles from the Dome on each of those occasions.

I'd be interested to see what they were a decade ago. I know Tubs was pulling quite a few from Florida, so it may not have been more, but I'm sure it was right around that.

Auburn and UCLA were contacted about playing in the Georgia Dome in 2010, but Auburn backed out of the offer. ABC then attempted to substitute Georgia Tech for the Tigers, but UCLA opted out because the game would essentially be a home game for the Atlanta-based Yellow Jackets, with no return trip to Los Angeles.[3][4] Finally, an agreement was reached with North Carolina and LSU to face off in the 2010 game.
