I think for most places that is true, but I think it would take a little bit to get used to, even if you are on the road often, if you come from some mega city like LA or NY

Ben Howland grew up in a town much smaller than Starkville LINK I am quite sure he knows how small town life is.
Not everyone wants to live in a megalopolis

Why? It's Ole Miss basketball. I've never really felt our basketball rivalry was really there, just because our fan base is so apathetic about the sport in general.

They live in Santa Barbara, not LA. Santa Barbara is relatively small but exquisite. They're keeping their beach home.

That must just be for y'all. In baseball and football, Ole Miss fans really care about the LSU and State games, but in basketball, we don't get too up or too down about beating our rivals. It just matters as far as seeding or if one of them is ranked.

I have never felt that our rivalry spills into basketball but I could be wrong.

I'm with you on that one. I've always considered the Kentucky game was filled with the most hate back in the Stans era. Ready for the Kentucky game to get back to that level.

Kentucky games were great, but the most hate was definitely Bama. The Gottfried-Stansbury rivalry made some of those Bama-MSU games awesome in the first half of the decade. Those two men hate each other.

True. I never got to experience the Bama games in person. I got to see many of the Kentucky matchups and it was intense. All this talk is making me actually look forward to basketball once again.

His teams are so boring to watch though.

I don't care if we win games 25-15 as long as we win. Also, anything has to be better than the crapfest I've watched the last three years.

Contract is 4 years/$2.05 MM per, making him fifth highest paid coach in SEC (until Bama hires theirs).

1. Calapari
2. Donovan
3. Pearl
4. Martin
5. Howland

He was just repeating what Dr. Keenum told him. He'll be achieving much more than beating OM. That's always been a norm other than this year. Oh and I'm not sure how many games Stans won against UK but he had several that came down to the final secs losing most in dramatic fashion.

Maybe. UCLA is one of the easiest places to coach and recruit to.

Well Ole Miss has had some nail biters with Bama in football but you don't see us calling it a rivalry.
