Did he really say that? If so, that's some bullshite. He, along with everyone else, knew damn well he was only there for 2 seasons tops.

I think he's an ok OC but as a head coach... just a glorified high school coach.

Not only is he sleazy for saying that but if anything comes of the NCAA investigation Auburn will have retained the assistants involved as well as a head coach that was on the staff that got busted for NCAA. Talk about a potential disaster.

If he said that, than shame on him. He knew damn well if an SEC school came knocking whether it was Arkansas or Auburn he was gone.

Had the "How sleazy is Petrino to take the Auburn job?" thread all queued up and ready to go and had to revise it?

I always saw it more as Arkansas used Gus to lock up all the Springdale players.

That's just how the coaching game works. He will be a failure at Auburn n a grand scale.

Call me old fashioned...but coaches with integrity dont haul azz after just one year unless your initials are spiffy kiffy. He recruited players to Ark State and then slammed the door as he left. Even if its an upward hire...it doesnt matter...you have to display some conviction in what you have been telling recruits and their families.....why, Im sure he was in living rooms of families just a year ago and letting them know little Johnny would be in good hands...yeah, right.
You gotta shave in the mirror and and like what you see. I have a feeling this will end up a nasty divorce...and dont let your wife near alcohol or prescription drugs.

your post has about as much validity as saban bitching about other schools recruiting kids committed to bama.

someone walks up to you and offers you 3m when you're making 800k, you're following him out the door.

also birds of a feather, thug pos, etc

i'm just thrilled we didn't get him. and it's not even his coaching so much, i just don't want him anywhere near the razorbacks and i certainly hope with this last fleeing he never gets an opportunity within the state again.

Most of the Ark HS coaches are not impressed. He gave them the whole load of "I'm building boise st south" and I need your help. I was a Ark HS coach too, I feel your pain...I'm in this for the long haul to build something special." The sudden jump didn't go over well with some. I can't figure out why they expected him to turn down an SEC offer to stay at ASU personally. It will be interesting to see if he still gets recruiting love from the Ark HS coaches.

well you can't really have one without the other there can ya?

yes, houston used gus to get the players in the same way gus used the players to get the job.

what makes it so much worse to use an adult vs using 4 teenagers?

Gus bails on Chizik after Cam leaves and a down year, leaves Aubie and the staff hanging with no QB development to run the system had them recruit players for.

He gets turned down for the UNC, Kansas, Colorado jobs. Likely was told by Dye that he needed to get some HC experience, then bails on Arkansas St. not even making it a year after stating publicly he was there to make Astate the Boise St. of the South.

Gus leveraged his Springdale players to get in the college game, then bailed on them in less than a year and encouraged them to transfer.

Gotta do watcha gotta do. No time for feelings getting hurt.

While I see where you are coming from, I don't blame Gus. He had a chance to be a head coach and he took the job. He got offered a job at an SEC program that he just coached at so he took the offer. I think 99.9% of people in his position would do the same thing.

This is what I don't like. I can understand him wanting to move up in the coaching ranks and believe Malzahn's a good coach, but he could have accomplished this without all the misleading bullshite he fed stAte. I had really thought that he was above this. I really hope now that ASU gets a damn good coach and I'm not even an ASU fan.
