What I would like to see is a system that takes things out of a committees hands and puts it in a won loss record that gets us the clear answer, not all the malarkey as in the past as to who is 1, 2, 3, 4, etc....

The problem with the current landscape of CFB is that there's such a difference in scheduling. You have teams that play 2-4 top 15 teams every season, and teams that routinely play 1 top 15 team year in and year out.

Take FSU's schedule this year, I could easily see Alabama, Auburn, South Carolina, LSU, and possibly A&M at least 11-1 with it.

How do you tell when FSU is good and when FSU is above average considering their conference sets them up to be 11-1 on a regular basis?

I don't think FSU was the best team in the country this year, I think they played well enough to win the only 2 games on their schedule that mattered, and against Auburn they caught some breaks and made it count.

I don't want to think what would have happened if Alabama had drawn Oregon last year for the title, but if we play UGA again in the championship who feels confident Bama wins that one?

The current system doesn't prove who's really the best team in the country but it certainly allows for teams with an easy schedule to get into the championship without ever being tested. That's why I think an 8 team playoff is the answer, hard to argue with a National Champion that won 3 straight against the top 10. I don't care if they came in 12-0 or 10-2. 1st round is hosted by the top 4 seeds on campus, then the neutral sites for semis and finals. Big difference in being ranked #1 and hosting #8 vs. being #5 and playing at #4, so this year's Iron Bowl still carries a ton of weight.

Mizzou @ FSU
Stanford @ Mich State

Baylor @ Alabama
Ohio State @ Auburn

I like this but I think one solution to the schedules is to drop the gimmee games for all, it would take care of some of your scheduling concerns regarding strength of schedule.

How to set this up, I lack that knowledge.

won't ever happen. Too much money is made on those gimme home games, both by the hosting big name team and by the directional school that comes in for the beating.

There are solutions, this is just an example. Currently SEC teams share some of their booty when they go to a bowl, a larger setup like that could occur and those teams may actually come out with more money and less outlay.

Just sayin there is a way but your point is definitely right on and would need to be addressed.

Last night on ESPN radio, 10pm or so, there was lamentations about the loss of the BCS and how wonderful it was, yada yada yada

By next year threads like this will have a great deal of traction.

Just to early for people to care.

Last night #3 Ohio State played #5 Michigan.

But it was a regular season college basketball game so nobody probably noticed or cared.

Both teams will make the tournament in a few months, both with pretty high seeds, maybe that game makes the loser a #3 seed rather than a #2 seed.

Gee, that's so HUGE!

Seriously, you make a huge playoff that's easy to make, the regular season games lose a ton of their significance, it's that simple.

College football has the best and most meaningful regular season in all of sports.

As others have pointed out, with an 8 or 16 team tournament, the Iron Bowl this year would have had no consequence at all other than seeding.

The Auburn/Missouri SEC title game? Seeding contest.

The OSU/MSU Big10 title game? Seeding contest.

Basically you'll ruin the regular season just so a few mediocre teams can sneak into the playoffs to appease whiny fans.

While I fully appreciate the good points that you make, we already have been using the seeding process by ranking the teams in the Top 25.

Simply, the 8 Team Playoff Procedure over all will be a more ACCURATE and legitimate ranking of the Top 25 and that will make each game even more relevant
