How long did you think Saban would be at Bama when he was hired?

He was somewhat of a coaching nomad when he signed on in 2007. I thought he'd be at Bama for maybe five years, maybe win a couple of SECCs.

All of you 'he gone' posters are still amusing, though.

I expected him to name himself, the Governor. Not of the state, but of your minds...

Idk. I didn't think of it then. I had two shitty roommates that I made sure I got out of that situation.

Bama fans: 5+ years

LSU fans: 5+ months

All others: somewhere in between.

Once he became successful at Alabama, so after a few years, I thought the only way he'd leave would be for another NFL gig but had to be the right situation. Knew he'd never leave alabama for a different college program.

That was what I hoped would happen.

What I feared was he would stick around for 7-8 years, win 2-3 SECCs and an NC, maybe play for another - basically, slightly better than Stallings did. That was my worst-case scenario as a Barner.

What happened was...well...

Dominate.

I watched everyone one of his press conferences at LSU. The way he took us to the top, and Alabama wasn't in as bad as shape as what he took over at LSU. I didn't think he'd win this many National Championships though.

Was afraid he wouldn't go back to the NFL.

10 years honestly. But Clay Travis and Colon Coward say he is going to retire after this year or a sometime down the road. I have to agree.

After '12, I thought he was gone. However, he didn't have the chest to take another shot at the NFL to become the best coach in history. Oh well..

75 years.

Then I realized this is probably his last year.

I think he was close to leaving until the tornado hit Tuscaloosa. Within a season or so. The storm changed everything.
Had the Texas 10 year-$100,000 deal been a couple of years earlier then maybe. But he had the Mercedes dealership by then.
I think he will go till his health starts to fail or Miss Terry tells him to hang it up and spend more time at Lake Burton or South Florida.

Quite honestly, I never even thought he would take the Bama job.

Personally thought the nomad label was bullshite. The truth is, he had exactly the same amount of stops as a head coach as...Bear Bryant with only 1 exception. The exception is Saban went to the NFL for 2 years and that gave him exactly 1 extra overall team.

Saban: Kent St->Michigan St->LSU->NFL->Alabama
Bear: Maryland->Kentucky->A&M->Alabama

I always had to wonder if those who called him a nomad were aware of what a coaching ladder was.

I kinda hoped he wouldn't stick around long because I thought he was a bit of a prick. I now realize I was right, but have come to accept it. He is our prick and will be here til the end.

If they say it every year, eventually they will be right.
