In a round about way, I think they shut down UAB football to get to the Basketball component. If they can't be in the CUSA then they won't keep their coach and won't be competitive for much longer. It's all connected.

As far as basketball is concerned in Alabama, UAB is the school, not Alabama or Auburn.
Wow what an admission. Geaux Blazers!

That is the real issue. Without football no C-USA and they will lose all the basketball prestige they have worked to build.

UAB was fine before C-USA and they'll be fine IF they are no longer in C-USA.
I'm not sure why anyone would claim being in C-USA for basketball provides "prestige." C-USA didn't get a single at large team into the tournament. UAB won the conference so they got the conference's guaranteed bid and no one else got squat. That's not "prestige." UAB could do the exact same thing in every other conference.

Winner winner chicken dinner. So Junior is really killing the basketball program too. What a POS.

Nah, CUSA basketball (and all sports) has gone way down hill lately. This isn't 10 years ago when Louisville, Memphis, Cincinnati, Marquette, St. Louis, Houston, TCU ect. It could honestly be a good thing to get away from CUSA. Half the teams in the conference now are new to Div 1.

I do not think Bear Jr will have as much say soon anyway, doesn't he have to step down now that he is seventy?

C-USA has very little prestige now - UAB Basketball was a pretty regular tournament team long before they joined C-USA.

UAB has been a mid major tournament favorite for a long while now. Whether they are in C-USA or somewhere else they should still be very competitive.

Well the are claiming their fricking wins now, so If they shut them down I am sure they would all show up in a program book one day.
BTW why the hell is POS boot licker still at UAB.
UAB: Blazers fans didn't miss an opportunity to chant "Fire Ray Watts" during timeouts in their protest against the university president who shut down the school's football program in December. ... The Blazers had a 19-9 edge on the offensive glass. ... Haase won his debut as a head coach, though he appeared in 17 other tournaments as a player or assistant.
