His number 1 priority is getting the basketball coach right and 2 out the 3 hires he's made seem like lazy work plus Cal was a big fish that jumped in the boat, so it's not like Mitch had to do much to get him.

Barnhart failed to do the most basic due diligence on Billy Clyde that would have shown him as an erratic raging alcoholic. There were stories at the time of Billy being late for plane flights and making Buzz and other assistants run stairs because Gillispie got a wild hair, which is funny but foreshadowed some of the crazy stuff he would do at Kentucky.

And now Mitch hires a guy who didn't do anything to elevate a BYU program that's been decent for decades and who would still be available if Mitch had done a more thorough search.

It all seems lazy.

He was in scramble mode because the best recruits and the best transfers would not be available in the upcoming weeks and Kentucky has to build a roster.

So he made the cheap hire that would say yes. Then he made him a top ten paid coach.

You would think that, but what if this was the nail in MB coffin that gets UK a new AD like some of the old UK AD's.

If they get rid of Cal AND Mitch, you get to clean house all at the same time!

I'm no fan of Barnhart generally, but he handle the Cal issue correctly. I'm going to assume Donovan gave him a hard no or we should have waited. With that said, as I have posted in other threads, Pope is a good coach and will only get better. UK fans have to get used to not having the one and done's, but I think we were ready for that anyway.
