Some people may be shaking their heads "no" at that notion ... but I've been saying the same thing for about the past 15 years.

As a huge fan of all three of those great coaches I have no problem recognizing Pat as greatest ever.

My great aunt got it. Luckily it didn't hit her to well in her 90s. She had good days and bad days. Basically it wiped 30 years of her life away.

Semi Funny Stories:
She was a former nurse, and at the nursing home so on the confused days she would try to work the nurses station.

Also my dad and I visited and she didn't recognize him at first which was sad, but then she did and I guess had a vision of him when he was 18 so her response was, "you got fat". lol

Prayers up to Pat and her family. She is
one class act. I always tried to watch her teams
every time they were televised. Blessing to all those she was around.

I always wondered if she could've coached the men.

Was she ever approached about coaching a mens team or in the NBA?

I don't know what treatments are being used, but there's this stuff called curcumin. Used in curry. People in India have a significantly lower incidence rate for this disease and they really think that this stuff is legit. Supposed to slow amyloid plaque spread. There's definitely positive research results about it. Learned about it in a class at LSU.

Anyway, not sure that this stuff reverses the effects, but for anyone else out there to start taking this as a supplement would have a better outlook as far as preventing the disease or at least slowing the effects that may be starting to show. Just thought I'd share.

Terrible disease, and extremely devastating. Prayers sent.

Pat Summit is the icon of women's basketball and the most universally loved coach in the conference. To think UK had even a small chance of hiring her makes me dizzy thinking of the possibilities.

UT fans should be so appreciative of her contributions to their school, and I know most are. I think TBA should be renamed the Pat Summit Arena.

To see a Kentucky fan post something like this is pretty amazing and awesome.

Pretty sure the Court is named The Summit, but I wouldn't be upset if the arena is eventually renamed in her honor.

You'll think I'm nuts/exaggerating but Pat Summitt could've been elected Queen of Tennessee and granted the right to rule as an absolute monarch if she'd wanted it. We were and are bonkers about her, even those who never followed the LVs. And not simply because she's a great coach but because she commanded our absolute respect in a way that few ever achieve. We honestly believed she could do ANYTHING if she wanted to regardless of what it was or whether she had any experience at all. And many of us adored her - she was classy, smart, can-do, and tough and reminded many of us of the some of women in our lives, especially those moms and grandmas who grew up rural and/or on farms and commanded respect for the same reasons Pat did off the court.

(FWIW, because of our belief in her toughness, iron will, and smarts we went into a sort of collective denial I've never seen happen with Alzheimer's before - we said over and over "if anyone can beat it Pat can," and we meant it. It has been hard for us to accept.)

And really beyond basketball, she represented the best of us, had the same upbringing that so many Tennesseans shared, and was extremely proud to be a Tennessean.

Funny story about Pat (because this is how we should remember people stricken with this terrible disease): When she was pregnant on a recruiting trip and it became clear it was time (her water broke while she was recruiting in PA) so she rushed back to the plane and had them head towards home. When it became clear that the baby wasn't about to wait much longer everyone on the plane advised an emergency landing in VA - the pilots outright begged her to do so. Her response? I was born in Tennessee, I was raised in Tennessee and I work in Tennessee. "I am having my baby in TENNESSEE!"

She even told her assistant to inform the pilots that if they dared to land in Virginia that they would have a madwoman on their hands. The pilots wound up flying so fast they burnt through a record amount of fuel and a flight that should've taken them 2hrs only took an hour. There were even black streaks on the outside of the plane when they landed from speed/burning of all that fuel.

Ambulances greeted the plane in Knoxville where Tyler was born a few hours later.

God bless Pat Summitt and her battle with any brain disorder. Took my aunt to the finish line with that despicable disease and wouldn't wish it on anyone.

From what I've heard, since it came out they've held the disease in check. Thing is when they went public it was more advanced then they let on. Due to Pat's toughness and work ethic, she was still functioning at a high level at a stage where many would not be functioning at all.

If you have Showtime there was a story about her son on 60 min Sports in the last few weeks. He is the head coach at La Tech and about 25.

I saw that. It was touching how close she is with her son. He literally grew up in her coaching shadow. They showed footage of him carrying her chair on the sideline before a game when he couldn't have been older than five. He was 23 when he was named head coach at La Tech. He is going to be a great one.

Her son is coaching the Lady Techsters in Ruston. She was there for his first game this season and looked great according to kinfolk who were at the game. GOAT in women's roundball and one of the best ever in coaching, period.

Tyler was always considered a part of the team. The only non-formal/player LV that was a genuine Lady Vol that was not honorary at all or considered an LV because he was staff/coach as he was definitely a part of the team beyond just being a coach's kid - a genuine teammate, strange as that sounds (that may not sound as big as it is but any time you're considered a part of the team, especially on the teammate level, it's a huge deal regardless of whether it's a men's team or women's). That truly speaks volumes about him. A lot of other kids would be treated as someone you had to put up with/be nice to.

Tyler tho' grew up with all of them and they treated him as their little brother and teammate and that actually spanned many, many years. When he got a tad older he used to strategize and chart things - had a little clipboard he used. He was def. way beyond his years. A very mature, smart and active kid around the team and very much interested in coaching from a young age. And you know, coach's kid or not, that's just not very common, especially that young, as most just kinda hang around and if they develop an interest in coaching it's often later in life.

Funny story about Tyler: When he was little he got so mad at his mom for yelling at his sisters he camped out in the garage.

BTW, what was the name of the Showtime doc? I'd love to see it.
