SODA POP?!? Now, that IS offensive. Damnyankees.

They may use the music, but the words weren't rewritten for the school? UGA uses "Glory Glory Hallelujah", but totally different lyrics.

I don't know what this thread is about now... Murder rates?

But Rocky Top is a cool sounding song. I don't really listen to all the words...

1. We don't play it after a TD but after an extra point is kicked.

2. And this is the most important part, the song is culturally important to E. TN.

3. I live on Thunder Road and my g-gpa was indeed a moonshiner. Revenuers weren't good people - they arrived and started shooting no questions asked and it didn't matter if you were guilty or not. They took bribes and were used by local sheriffs (and often the sheriff was the one doing the raiding) to settle political scores, sometimes by slaughtering families. Both sheriffs and agents did far more killing than moonshiners and often killed the innocent.

4. The land at this time was worthless - erosion had claimed it and people were starving. Moonshining meant people got to eat. My own family got into the business due to a sick child who required medical treatments they couldn't afford.

5. It's awesome.
