Maybe if UTK put a little more effort into recruiting they would have beat Auburn in the last 10 years.

recruiting was never a problem under Fulmer. in fact, if we only go by recruiting Fulmer would still be here and we'd have a fricking dynasty.

under Tubs I remember they recruited okay, like in the top 10-20 range. but all of a sudden they're landing blue chips as if they're Texas/USC or something. last year they even beat out Bama. this year they're killing it again and they'll finish strong, possibly in the top 3.
so after hiring a 5-19 coach they became an elite tier football program all of a sudden? am I missing something here? why are these recruits dying to play for Chizik?

Tuberville felt it better to focus energy on players that he had a better than 50% chance of landing. He was very aggressive as a recruiter the entire time at Auburn but his early classes were loaded with talent. JC, Carnell, Brown, not to mention several receivers corner backs and on and on.

Tubs didn't go after "elite" talent as often as I mentioned he wanted to spend time with guys he had a very good chance of landing. Tuberville when after what I called B+ players instead of trying to go after some major talent and then fall back on a standard B or C guy. Also Tubs HATED recruiting agencies, that is putting it nicely. Tubs felt he was a better evaluator of talent than the agencies so he never focused on getting the 5 stars as he felt some were not 5 star talent.

The new staff has put a lot of focus and energy into this top recruits. It means more misses in that a lot of energy will be spent on players we don't get but it will also mean more home runs as well. Also it helps when you have Gus as a very hot name plus a very flashy offense that gets a lot of people the ball to showcase their skills.

When I see a comment like this, and think of the literally hundreds of people that would be involved in pay for play and the incredible trail all of that traveling money....you really have to tip your hat to the puppetmaster behind the curtain able to pull this off for so long w/o being caught...hell, since '90 or whenever the Eric Ramsey thing happened, Auburn hasn't even been ACCUSED of anything by anyone that matters. That's 20 years of money, vectored all over the place involving hundreds of players...literally thousands of their family members, maybe 75 or so coaches, etc...etc... Can you think of any comparable, enduring criminal scheme that has lasted w/o being discovered in recorded history?

And don't say the mob because before they were getting constantly busted, they had goons and would kill anyone that threatened them or got close.

Maybe mind control? Maybe, Bobby Louder has one of those "men in black" devices that wipes away recent memories? I know that sounds outlandish but I just can't seem to wrap my mind around how this could have been done. Either way, props to the puppetmaster.

Auburn's recruiting class really isn't that great at this point.

Oline: They've got two really good prospects. Westerman and Robinson.

RB: Got a couple of ATHs, Calloway and Bray. Neither of them is another Dyer.

WR: Nobody special.

DL: Three 3 stars. Their dline class sucks balls.

LB: I can't believe they told Frost there was "no room" because he is the best LB they have.

DB: Basically have two guys who are worth a shite, Therezie and Rose.

Now cue the Barners telling me they'll land every blue chipper still available.

We don't need to tell you shite just wait for the results. I wait and see what the players do on the field before they impress me anyway. No need arguing before that happens. It sure helps being in the top 10 recruiting than not I will admit that.

Uhhhhhh.....

Don't try to tell me you won't be bragging if you land a Top 5 class. And don't tell me you're gonna wait 4 years to evaluate these players.

Please.

dismukes is a stud. also, dont forget about the former 5* OT, Shon Coleman who should be ready to start working out again by summer.

Our other Dyer will come on signing day, or right before

WR: Nobody special

filled what we needed, but we are stacked at WR right now...wasnt a point of emphasis in this class

quote:

DL: Three 3 stars. Their dline class sucks balls

but were gonna close out with Wright, Drew, and possibly Sigler

LB: I can't believe they told Frost there was "no room" because he is the best LB they have.

calloway will almost certainly become a LBer, and Justin garret, if you havent watched his film, you really should. kid is an absolute head hunter. flies to the ball.

DB: Basically have two guys who are worth a shite, Therezie and Rose.

Add in Erique florence, and possibly one other, and im thrilled with that secondary class.

Crowell is going to Georgia.

but we are stacked at WR right now.

Not really. You've got Blake and a bunch of inexperienced players. Adams, Zachary, and Burns are gonzo.

Benton - we'll see. He's certainly no Rueben Randle. Reed - again, we'll see.

DL: Three 3 stars. Their dline class sucks balls

Wright - yes
Drew - no, he's going to Georgia
Sigler - who cares because he was everybody's backup plan

quote:

calloway will almost certainly become a LBer,

That isn't what most of you Barners say.

quote:

Might go to USC.

Wow great reading comprehension. Read my comment again you will see I said once they hit the field in games never said 2-3-4 yrs down the road. Also, I said being in top 10 in recruiting doesn't hurt meaning yes that is a very good thing and translates that alot of the athletes you get will help and contribute. Finally my first sentence is wait to see where we finish in the recruiting. Pay attention if you are going to reply you look like a douche.

AU's recruiting success is only a surprise to the truly ignorant and/or asinine.

AU may have the best staff in the entire country. I think calling it one of the top 5 in the country is a given. It is why everyone wants our coaches. When it was put together, it was extremely obvious it was put together with great recruiters being a huge priority.

Looper, Trooper, and Thigpen had GREAT reputations for pulling in talent and being top notch recruiters.

Rocker is considered one of the best Dline coaches in the country. Kids want to play for him. That was obvious even at Ole Miss.

Grimes is a top notch Oline coach and recruiter. Hell, the biggest program in college football wanted him badly.

Malzahn is the hottest and maybe best OC in the nation. His system is going to get a look from every big time offensive player in the country that is undecided.

Chizik is a relentless recruiter. Every bit as much as saban. Hell, he may be outworking even saban. We are signing 4 of the top 5 instate recruits this year once we get Florence. Call it a down year in state, but AU is winning the head to head battles.

Add in this amazing staff has been together 3 years now. All of them. Name one other top 10 program that has not lost a single coach in 3 years...

Then you throw in the fact we are now the national champions and can still offer early playing time.

Like I said, if you are suprised by the results, you are probably not too bright or jealous, or just insecure in general.

Might as well get used to them either way. As long as this staff stays together, top rated classes will continue.

It will take that long for all of them to see the field, in all likelihood. You clearly don't know college football or recruiting very well at all.

while that is true, most of them were highly rated coming out of HS (not saying that means they will be playmakers, but it usually helps)

quote:

Drew - no, he's going to Georgia

may be right, just get this weird feeling from him, that he will be a Tiger.
