we returned like 15 starters.
it's coaching. Petrino was a hard arse MF and guys were afraid to fail when they played so they played hard and with effort. under John L it's a country club, they know (and he knows) he's gone at the end of the season so whats the use in playing hard for him?
Bingo. The players don't care.

No talent/depth at OL, LB, S, CB.

what is the only major difference from last season?
Lost your only two players on D in Bequette and Franklin. As well as half of your receiving yards.

Guys...our HC was our OC, DC, STC on the DL

so that's the reason we suck, they are more important than a head coach?

Isn't this, for the most part, the same team as last year plus Knile Davis, who was a beast two years ago? JLS was a pretty decent coach back in the day. He put Louisville on the map. It can't all be coaching . Educate me. Why do they keep getting blown out?
I know Arky fans won't admit this , but last year they were closer to 4th in the west than 2nd. They got pushed around by the shittiest ole miss team I've ever seen ,last year.

and you're struggling against Towson State.
all about the W's. don't be a hater.

Basically they are saying the reason we went from #5 in the Nation to a high school team is because Bobby Petrino can't recruit.
This is the reason they suck.

Actually...because he is not the coach

Petrino was that program offensively he was still heavily involved in the game planning and play calling on offense. His weakness was the defense, he made some good moves defensively before he rode into the ditch.
Now they have a clueless caoch that is just making it out the year. Their offense is putting up some good yardage in games due to their QB but ineffective play calling and no overall game plan has royally screwed this team up. They are not one to sleep on as if the offense ever gets a few correct plays called inside the RZ they could score and do well.

I thought Wilson did alright. It's just that he had several large, angry men in his face damn near all game. Hard to throw a ball in that circumstance.

When we fired Petrino we lost:
1) organization--The team has no central leader and is composed only of individual units. No one in charge to bring the team together
2) correct preparation--we are completely lost and do not have a central figure to give us direction. Our gameplan is basically show up, throw a bunch of stuff at the wall and see what sticks
3) attention for detail--We play with bad techniques and a complete lack of fundamentals and no one is there is changing that
4) ability to make adjustments during game--What we start with we end with. By the 2nd quarter Offenses and Defenses can read us like an open book. The coaches just seem to sit back and wait for the players to just play better
5) accountability--players and coaches were held responsible for mistakes and nobody wanted to catch Petrino's wrath. Now its just laid back and smiling.
All the coaches know they are gone come December and are mailing it in.
Players have been beaten down and lost faith to the point that when their opponents get a little momentum we implode and spiral downhill quickly.
We don't have anyone that can hold the team together and stop the implosion.

Does anyone think that John L. Smith is preparing for any of these games? Dude has much bigger problems and trouble after hours than Petrino ever had. There were stories of Petrino and crew staying 12 hours+ a day week in and week out preparing for games. JLS is obviously not doing this. Why should he care? 12-0 or 0-12 and he gets paid the same and shown the door at the end.

One thing that is evident after Petrino's firing is that Petrino was very much the micro-manager.
The assistants he hired were assistants that were there just to follow his orders.
Probably his micro managing is why top defensive co-ordinators don't work with him.
He is a helluva coach though and if he could partner with a top notch D-Coordinator that was allowed to run the defense that would be a dangerous combination.

This makes sense, I'll take it.
