Wichita State vs teams in the NCAA and SEC

11.20 @ Tulsa : 77-54 : #13 seed in NCAA, eliminated by #4 UCLA, 17 point spread
11.26 vs BYU : 75-62 : #10 seed in NCAA, eliminated by #7 Oregon, 19 point spread
12.01 @ SLU : 70-65 : #5 seed in NCAA, eliminated by #4 Louisville, 15 point spread
12.14 vs Tennessee : 70-61 : #11 seed in NCAA, plays today
12.17 @ Alabama : 72-67 : no post season play
12.22 vs NC - Central : 77-66 : #14 seed in NCA, eliminated by #3 Iowa State, 18 point spread

If UK shows up, this game will not be close. If UK lets WS hang around it will not go well for UK. Team full of freshmen, but if beating #1 motivates them as that is where they were supposed to be, Shockers are in for a shock.

Shockers non conference looks much like Mizzou in they played most games at home, or close to home. The Alabama game was the only one where they really had to travel.

13 non conference games
8 played in Wichita KS
2 played in Kansas City MO
1 played in Saint Louis MO
1 played in Tulsa OK
1 played in Tuscaloosa AL

For all the reference to last years team. Shockers lost 3 Seniors and 1 Sophomore from last years team.

No game referenced was in the last three months... and this game is in Kansas City, so I'm not sure how relevant where WSU played their OOC games is.

Should be a good game.

When has UK shown up through their first 35 games?... unless we're counting choking to UF.

They looked pretty good in the SEC Tournament. They looked good earlier this year against Michigan State and beat Louisville. They also beat Providence earlier this season at the Barclay Center. The same Providence team that almost upset UNC.

I don't think there's any reason to think they can't compete with Wichita State from a matchup perspective. I don't know if they win, especially with Andrew Harrison injured. And it's entirely possible they don't show up, because they have been inconsistent in the past. But let's not act like they haven't beat NCAA Tournament quality teams on their schedule.

I am no UK lover, but obviously they did enough right to actually make the tourney. So I would say through the first 35 games they earned an 8 seed and handled a gritty kstate team pretty easily after having a good showing at the SEC tourney.

I was at the Mizzou/UK game in Columbia, it was a sellout and our crowd was actually in the game. Mizzou played pretty well that game and UK still handled us.

The potential is there and they have shown flashes and appear to be getting better. I don't think Wichita State has the horses inside to keep up. If WSU shoots 60 some percent from behind the arc then that is a different story...

I think UK matches up well and potentially it could be the best game of the tournament. LINK

A few weeks ago I would not have given UK as much of a chance but I think it undeniable they are playing their best ball now and with the talent they have when they are playing at their best I think they will be hard to stop.

I see it as a game of runs and momentum swings and it should go down to the wire.

FTR, my largest concern right now is Andrew Harrison's elbow. He says he's going to play but UK game planned for a situation where he won't. That could be a tough situation for them since he's come on at PG the last few games. And a pretty big burden for a young guy to carry at PG on the big stage if he's in quite a bit of pain.

That would be a legitimate concern. Having both Harrisons at 100% would obviously be best for UK and better for UK to match up with the Wichita State guard play.

Obviously UK has the distinct advantage down low which should be key regardless of guard play. I think that is why there's still a lot of optimism UK can win even if Harrison isn't 100% or is unable to play.

It could be interesting if they slide Aaron to point, play Poythress at the three (Young at the 2). Could be a lot of size for Wichita State to contend with. Unfortunately Poythress has struggled in post-season play this season. Would be a nice game to shake that stigma.

I worry about this game for UK. Witchita St. wants their season validated and there's no better way to do that then by beating Kentucky. However, you have to think UK has the program advantage and that often helps in the post-season. UK's been there, done that, and can go to work.

Normally I would agree that UK (on paper) is way more talented, but this team has been up and down all season, it's hard to think they will be able to play an entire 40 minute game well.
They haven't done that all season really, not sure a light can come on now, but it's always possible given the talent on the floor.

Kansas just lost too.
