I'm not taking up for him--I swear!
Was just speculating on the OP's question.
It's likely someone told him something.
Just saying it wouldn't surprise me if Mr. Agent was involved.
And who knows? Maybe it's about leveraging a raise w Auburn?
Peace.

This is the same bullshite that was past around about Sumlin.
Do any of you know any sports agents?
If you do, you know how the game is played. A successful (does not mean winning NC every year, dipshits) coach's agent uses interest from other programs as leverage for contract renegotiation.
Gus' agent, like most agents, has his ear to the ground and knows that it is likely that Mack Brown will retire after this season. Agent leaks this story to SI to generate "interest" and a threat. Agent then uses that threat to get mo money out of Auburn. If Auburn don't pay, and the sips are interested, he gone. See Bert Bulimic and Wisconsin.
But, none of this REALLY happened with Sumlin and his agent. Sumlin REALLY, REALLY, REEEEEAAAAALLLLY wanted the SC job, and ACTIVELY lobbied for it, because he REALLY wanted it. It had nothing to do with getting paid market rate for an SEC head coach. Not at all.
