I have not seen a play take a players career into orbit like clowneys hit since fluties hail mary. Clowneys hit was good it is not news worthy to show over and over again. great play cant deny it but if his name was sam malone you may have seen it 3x maybe its not like anyone cares about south carolina football outside of south carolina. still espn keep trying to pump the sunshine.

clowney is a flop waiting to happen in the nfl. espn is trying to shove this guy down cfb fans throats hes a good college player but in nfl he will become mario williams, a world of talent but never will reach his full potenial.

Clowney's career was already heading into orbit when he put out his high school highlight videos. It's what made him the overall #1 in his recruiting cycle, and considered the most talented prospect EVER in Rivals and Scout's history. He was just recently voted the most talented prospect in the past 10 years. All he had to do was back up the hype...

And he has been doing that. his performances on the field are just confirming that everyone's hype of him is true. Very few talents ever do that, to the degree that Clowney has been doing that. But the hit on Smith in the Michigan game wasn't the only play that has gotten people excited.

Here's a few others that illustrate Clowney's talents:

I support what he's saying... KeKe Mingo made a far more impressive play against clemson in the backfield which also caused a fumble and knocked the player out the game, but it will never get the credit that hit got. If you dont know the play Im talking about go watch it... Mingo makes a far more athletic and professional play with the same result.

IMO what made the hit in the bowl game versus Michigan so big was how it was set up by the events that preceded it. Michigan had just been awarded a first down off of a fake punt play that was clear for all TV viewers in the nation was NOT a first down. It was played on a 4th down, and the ball would've been USC's on loss of downs.

The bowl game was one of perhaps 2 that was being watched by the nation at the time. People who have no connection to either South Carolina or Michigan was watching this game.

When the first down call was made and the ball was clearly BEHIND the first down marker, CFB Nation BLEW UP. You could check all the major college sports forums and msg boards at the time: if they had a game thread going, posts poured in about how USC was getting cheated. If there were no game threads, then there were a proliferation of new threads started talking about it. Even dedicated Clemson boards were all lighting up, talking about USC being wronged. While the call was being reviewed in real time, EVERYONE was talking about USC getting screwed.

And then the next play happens. The internet was still buzzing about the "screw-job" of the 1st down call when Clowney obliterates Smith, forces the fumble, and recovers it for USC.

It was like, Divine Intervention. It was like, Justice From Up Above. The fact that the UM helmet goes flying out of any operating video camera's range at the game adds to the graphic impact. But surely the set up of the 1st down call preceding "The Hit" played a HUGE role in it being "The Hit"....

It's about the 2nd or 3rd play of the video.....and it's good for a few laughs over a LSU fan calling it as good if not better than the Clowney hit. Hang on for a second...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA....

OK. Watkins is a WR, not a RB. Mingo hits him from the side, not head on. After the hit, Watkins STILL GOES FORWARD. Clowney destroys Smith, who doesn't go a centimeter forward. And Mingo doesn't retrieve the fumble, which in Clowney's case was a Boss move that only adds to his tackle. There's no comparison between the two, really. To suggest such is laughable...

Have to agree. That LSU play was weak sauce in comparison.

That is the hardest hit I've ever seen. It was Ben rattling. Hell it hurt me and I was on he other side of a flat screen.

Thank you, I'm so fricking sick of seeing that one play, no matter what show you watch it's on there about 10 times. It's like they will use any excuse to show it over and over again.

Heisman talk? 10 Clowney hits.

SEC East race? Bump that up to 15 Clowneys, baby.

Best defenses? You can go ahead and gimme 20 quickfire Clown pounds.

Yesterday I begged for the season to begin just so we can see some different goddamn plays.

Yeah I get it. But blame ESPN, not Clowney. This is close to what happened to Tebow except Clowney should be very good in the NFL. ESPN is over-hyping that one play and people are getting of sick of seeing it. It's a shame too because people that OBVIOUSLY don't know football very well (like the OP) think that was his only good play when that is hardly the case.

its a nice hit but the guy helment came off because of his dreads, not because of the force of clowneys hit.. you guys keep calling him a freak, like i said in the nfl there is about 40 freaks that play his position.

mingo best play was vs oregon running down lamicheal james from the opposite side of the line of scrimmage for a 2 yd lost.. that trumps that b.s. hit by clowney.

clowney best play to me was his missed tackle vs LSU's jc copeland. copeland ran twoards the sideline bounced off clowneys tackle revesed his field only to get caught on the other side of the field by clowney who had fallen down. this play trumps that b.s. hit vs michgan

Let it go dude! The more you type, the more I am certain that you have down syndrome or just never played any competitive sport outside of chess. If that hit versus Michigan is all you know of Clowney, then it is ok to admit that's all you know of USC football, and you are just flat out ignorant of anything outside of LA.

its the second play... and like I said it may not have been as big of a hit but thats because it was a more athletic play with all his momentum moving forward yet he somehow moves sideways like five yards to make the hit and cause the fumble.... it was a bad angle in that highlight but if u watch a replay of the game they show some impressive replays from a different angle. It's pure athleticism vs just a big unblocked hit where the rb ran straight at clowney... any football player can deliver that blow but very few can make the tackle Mingo did... idiots
