How so? It shows he's committed to fixing the defense, although I think many of the problems this year are due to poor offensive production.

They have a wealth of talent. They have top coordinators and a head coach that was on the rise. They were pumped up as a SEC title contender before the season.

But now they're an underdog to Bert '3 SEC wins' Bielema and a rebuilding Arkansas team.

What gives

Auburn has issues trying to handle success. It is so rare that when it comes along they become complacent and think they should win every year. Throw in some ridiculous expectations from their fans, building this player or that player up as the next Cam, and it doesn't take long to see why they stumble like they do.

Oh yeah... their last few coaching staffs don't seem to be able to coach the talent level up. Nor do they react quick enough to get rid of their problem players. Once they finally decide to cut the ties, the team is typically too far gone to do much good.

One down year for Gus.

You lost 5 games last year and with Ole Miss, UGA, Alabama, Arkansas and Texas A&M left on the schedule...and with two losses already there is a strong chance of losing at least 5 this year. So, that would be two down years for Gus. This year has been a shock for everybody regarding Auburn. I think most of us expected a SEC Championship or at least 2nd in the West this year. I know I did.

I thought last year was a rebuilding year for Arkansas? Yeah I know 17-0 but I'm really asking with serious intent.

Your defensive line play has not improved at all since Garner left.

Bad programs are "rebuilding" every year.

This season was always going to be predicated on the offense carrying the defense. The hope was the defense would make enough marginal improvements that Auburn could win more games.

I do not think anyone foresaw the complete implosion at the qb position. Combine that with an under-performing Oline and that is where the team is.

The defense is still terrible, but that was the case last year as well.

I still think the defense will keep getting better, just probably not enough to win games this year. It is telling so many of the freshmen are outperforming the upperclassmen on D.

As far as the offense, having to hit the reset button with a new qb has undoubtedly knocked offensive improvement back. That being said, I think that by the Ole Miss game, the offense will have developed some sort of identity.

Because they sold out their identity for flash cotton snake oil type stuff.

The same things win that always won, and we just have a bunch of different excuses when we lose.

Lack of talent on the team is what happened. Need to recruit much better.
