How big of a concern is the kicker position for Alabama?

Who are the players involved in the kicking competition for Alabama?

Auburn will trade Daniel Carlson, or his little brother, for Daron Payne and Minkah Fitzpatrick.

No more nor less of a concern than it has been for the last eight years. We just concede that our kicking game will be average or below.

I figure it will cost us a game or two unless something changes pretty quickly.

There's always one game we need a fricking kicker, so it's a big concern

I've just never seen the Alabama writers be so outspoken about it. Granted, I only saw the tweets because Cole Cubelic liked them. I don't even know who Alabama has in line.

We'll be punting, going for it on 4th down, and going for 2 all year.

That's an exaggeration, but there's legit concern.

The Bama writers are outspoken because it's a huge red flag right now.

How is JK Scott coming along with the drop kicking practice?

We lost it all last year because we had to lean on a true freshman quarterback. I would rather go through that again than not having a kicker. You just know we will need the kicking game to squeak out a win against one or two teams. Where is Cade Foster when you need him? Yuck.

Bama has had kicking woes seems like every year under Saban, but it really isn't the case. I can point to 2 games off the top of my head where it really cost a ballgame. 2007 Arky and 2011 LSU. An argument could be made for AU 2013, too. Not on the kick 6 but the chip shot that would have sealed it. But he also drilled that kick and we got the phantom procedure penalty.

Somebody needs to step up though.

Probably the only criticism of Saban that anyone could have. He could've spent a scholarship on Carlson and won the last three national championships. Hope he retires soon

LS Cole Mazza was probably the most under appreciated player on the team. He was the most consistent over the last 4 years...that missing production coupled with a new holder and new kickers probably looked rough in the very first scrimmage. I think it's a little premature to worry about the kicking game.

Hopefully it's so bad we go for it anytime outside 30 yards.

I'd be ecstatic

It would keep things interesting, that's for sure.
