It was somewhat in the original plans, but I think it go scratched due to the lack of room. I was "upset" by it too, but in person it doesn't look that bad and it is mainly blocked from view by the bright complex.

Here is your view standing near it.

Most of the foot traffic, tailgating, etc is done on the other 3 sides. So you can see the top of it (never going to be covered) and part of it if you look from the SE outside of the stadium.

One last one:

This is over the past 2 off seasons. (Field was lowered and moved down as well and the stands brought closer)

LSU football operations facility to get expanded, renovated; Nutrition center to break ground this fall

$12M LSU nutrition center

quote:

Tiger Stadium isn’t the only building getting expanded. LSU’s football operations facility — including the weight room and locker room — is getting a facelift.

The school is expanding and renovating the 10-year-old facility on Skip Bertman Drive. The Tiger Athletics Nutrition Center, meanwhile, is back on schedule and could break ground as early as this fall.

On the east side of the facility, facing Tiger Stadium, the weight room will be expanded by at least 20 percent and include a second-floor mezzanine with windows overlooking the driveway into the facility.

On the west side, facing the Mississippi River and practice fields, the team’s locker room will be completely renovated, and the training room and second-floor coaches’ meeting rooms will be expanded.

Tiger Athletic Foundation is funding the project. Rick Perry, TAF president and CEO, said the organization has raised $4 million since starting the fundraising for the football operations expansion six months ago.

The project doesn’t have a time frame or estimated cost since it’s in the early stages of design, Nunez said.

“We’re assessing the cost,” he said. “We don’t have a dollar amount.

The nutrition center will include a large dining room, kitchen, lounge area and a “fueling station” open extended hours, according to renderings. A concrete plaza encircles the building, which adheres to the campus’ Spanish-style architecture.

Across the street...

...the tan warehouse-looking building with the white roof is the indoor practice facility. The operations building is attached to it. Between it and Tiger Stadium is where the Nicholson Drive Corridor Project will be constructed.

Just a followup to your question, but from this pic...

...it appears Texas A&M football only has two practice fields, both grass. LSU placed their football ops center where they did in order to have space for four practice fields...three grass, one artificial turf.

Do the Aggies have additional outdoor practice fields elsewhere?

Just the two grass fields, and the artificial one in the indoor practice facility (it's a full-sized field).

Those 2, Kyle, and the indoor which is the closest building tot he north of the practice fields. I make it to an occasional open practice and I don't think it looked like there was an issue with space. I don't tihnk I've ever heard a coach complain either. I guess LSU just has an abundance.

Just to be clear, wasn't criticizing or crowing. Just pointing out the difference in design philosophy between TAMU and LSU.

Looks to me like TAMU built their their football practice facilities as close to the stadium as possible and were willing to sacrifice space for convenience. Also, the only locker room the football team has in the Bright Center.

Whereas LSU, the football ops center was built where it could spread out. Four fields were built as a result, so offense, defense, and special teams each had a separate field. The additional artificial turf field was for game preparation for upcoming away games where the stadium had turf.

Having the Indoor practice facility, weight rooms, training and meeting rooms, and coaches offices nearby was part of the plan. The whole concept was to have everything under one roof, and right next door to the outdoor fields. Obviously, this meant an additional locker room other than the one in Tiger Stadium. That's what will be updated soon.

The one in Tiger Stadium , as you recall, was updated before last year...

Honestly, it wasn't a consious, planned decision. There's really not another choice. That's where the practice fields have been for about 100 years. Back then, I don't think having multiple practice fields was really a big deal. If A&M wanted more practice fields, they'd have to build an entirely new facility way out on west campus, which would just be an absurd thing to do. The "only" locker room they have is in the Bright Center, because it is connected to the stadium, which is immediately adjacent to the practice facility. They don't need another because they can walk out of their locker room into the stadium or out a door and a few yards to the practice facility.

Also: you are most certainly crowing. You couldn't crow any harder if you were a rooster.

I'm pretty sure that we could squeeze in another, turned east/west, just south of the two outdoor fields, if we felt we needed it. That area is being used for construction parking, at the moment, but I don't think there are any long term plans for it.

I said I wasn't, and I'm the kind of guy who says what he means and means what he says. There is never any need to look for deep, dark hidden meanings in any of my posts. I'm pretty straight forward, just as I am in all things.

He asked how far the ops center was from Tiger Stadium, and I not only told him how far, but why it was where it was.

The plan at A&M appears to be the same. Everything it right next to the other including the stadium.

I think having 2 locker rooms may be somewhat(minor) inconvenience. Do they carry their pads, helmets, jerseys, pants socks, shoes, braces, arm bands, etc to both? Or just have 2 sets of everything? If I leave my lucky hat in the football facility locker, I have to run across the street to get it for gameday. That seems like an annoyance if it could have been avoided.
