very much looking forward to increased coverage in Fall 2012. there seems to be a huge component of SEC school alumni in the greater Houston area.

even during the football season the chronicle refused to post SEC standings.

welcome aboard aggies and tigers.

The Chronicle always seems to reluctantly cover A&M sports, so we'll see how much coverage they actually give. I could see them using it as an excuse to further marginalize the coverage

There is also a large Mississippi State alumni base in Houston who work in the Engineering fields.

I dont know about a "large" miss st base, but there certainly is a hell of a lot of LSU fans here. Between TAMU and LSU you think the Chronicle would be more than happy to accomodate the SEC fan.

I've never met or seen any MSU alumni. Besides LSU & TAMU, I see a decent amount of UF and a few Bammers mixed in

Living out here in west houston (the katy area) behind A&M you could argue that LSU is the second most represented school out here, there might be more UT fans but you certainly can't tell when out and about. Also there are a lot more bama fans than you would think too

Yeah, there are quite a few Bama fans in the Houston area as a whole.

With print media suffering a slow death you would think they would put bias aside and try and sell papers

It's weird, in Texas most of the UTa fans you see did not attend UTa. All the UTa grads I know, minus a handful, are very apathetic towards UT sports.

Especially in Houston

I'd say the contingent in Houston among SEC fans (after we begin play) will be A&M, LSU, followed by a pretty significant Bama group then smaller groups of UF, State and Auburn. There are more than enough SEC fans to warrant significant coverage even without A&M.

Everyone thinks the media is biased against them. I highly doubt the Houston Chronicle hates aTm considering that is where most aTm alumni live.

Remember, Big Moe is partially to blame for the purple drank epidemic that spread through the team when Nick brought in players from the Houston area. The loss to Kentucky in 2007 came the day before Moe passed. Coincidence? I think not.

The paper would be crazy not to cover the SEC. SEC fans spend money like no other fanbases on sports and sports information.

as an objective outsider, i don't understand this statement. like any newspaper in today's media environment the chronicle has limited coverage of anything not on the national "wires" because they layed off the majority of their reporting staff. my view is that the chronicle reports pro sports first high school sports second and then treats a&m and ut with the next highest amount of coverage and then deals with the rest of the schools in texas. lastly they deal with other conferences and most of that is national "wire" stuff. the root of the problem is that customers don't buy newspapers any more. they have become little more than advertisements with a spattering of inane and little depth "articles". and that's in a city of 6 million souls. smaller town newspapers are not worth the paper they are printed on. sadly, many (if not most) people in the usa are content with internet snippets. it seems as if we are internet savy and dumbed down otherwise. sorry for the tirade. lastly, i would pretty much have to categorize the houston chronicle as the worst major city newspaper in the country. the atlanta JC, the Miami Herald, etc, etc are far superior. maybe its the fact that over 50% of our residents can't read but that's another story.

A&M: SEC
UT: BigXII
UH: Big East
Rice: WAC

Believe it or not, the DMN & FWST have been "sharing" reports for some events for the last couple of years. The MN has let a ton of the older, higher paid reporters go. Many of them are working for radio stations and web based entities now. Sucks to be a sports reporter right now.
