SOme UGA people have gone back and proven that after the 2007 Cocktail Party, the SEC officials were absolutely calling more PFs against UGA. The only game that truly ticked me off was the 2008 UGA-Bama game where UGA had around 8 penalties in the first half to none for Bama, even though Bama was doing the exact same things like hitting the QB high right after the pass got off. If you are going to call something on one team, you should at least call it on the other as well. Having seen plenty of Lattimore highlight runs the last few years, I also note that nearly every run includes a strategic hold, but most are not called.
UGA certainly gets away with some holds as well, but I have noticed that SEC refs will let lesser schools get away with murder to keep them in the game.

I feel like there is generally more bias related to personal fouls due to reputation. UGA has seen a huge rise in the amount of personal fouls since that Florida game. Florida tends to get a lot as well. I feel like teams with major public incidents are on a shorter leash. The worst call I can remember that stemmed from this was when AJ Green was called for taunting against LSU when he literally did nothing but celebrate with his teammates.

Bama pays the SEC to pay the refs to never call them for holding.

it does seem that the refs go up to saban for a discussion before they flag bama. i can only imagine the conversation..

"look coach, we have to flag you sometime. the rest of the league is making things hot. but, since you're up by 30, just take this one flag w/o too much flak and we'll pay you back plenty if the game gets close. remember, your next check is due by the 15th"

alabama - offensive lineman must grab the defender's facemask with two hands and bring him fully to the ground.

all other teams - its called pretty evenly/consistently well

You are aware that it is not illegal to grab the defender?

Yeah, it is the tackle/haul down that he is referring to.

alabama= zero holding calls

auburn= fifty chop block calls

lsu= the only school in division 1 to get a taunting call that removed a touchdown from the board (by a punter nonetheless).

ole miss= no calls at all from the middle of the 3rd qtr on (or when they get down by 40 whichever comes first).

A&M - 291

Added A&M and Mizzou to show SEC to Big 12 penalties.

A&M is undisciprined.

I expect that to change now that PeePaw Sherman has been shown the door.

This is a whole other discussion right here. Based on the rule that went in place this year, that was the correct call- you've seen the picture. With that being said, that is the dumbest rule that has come out in a long time. I absolutely hate giving a ref the opportunity to inject themselves into a game like that on a judgement call. I have been praying someone like ND loses a game due to that so we can re-visit.

you are 100% correct on every point. taunting calls are dumb, period. the only exception i can see is when the two teams are fighting a lot and the atmosphere on the field is explosive. even then, i think the player and the HC should be warned before a call is made.

How prevalent is offensive holding called in the SEC?

Please tell me you intended this to be a debate about Bama holding. If so, this was an excellent bait.

Having said that, the SEC calls holding an average amount I would say. Undisciplined teams with poor coaching technique get called a lot for it, whereas teams with 3 1st team All-SEC selections on the o-line will not be called a lot for it.

We joke but it is stupid how few holding penalties bama gets.

How 'bout offsides penalties, illegal procedure, pass interferance, roughing the kicker? We don't get called much for those either.

I'm glad you started this thread so that you Aggies could quickly discern who the biggest crybabies in the league are. If aTm ever beats LSU, I can promise you it will be the refs.
