This is not a troll.

Both men are well respected, have no baggage, have been coaching a long time, and have tons of SEC experience. (Cutcliffe is another name in that mold).

UT needs an elder statesman with a strong head on his shoulders right now. Don't try and make a "splash" hire this year, guys. It ain't happening. You've done fricked that up this year.

Go with an experienced veteran and let him build the program back for a few years. After that, then go after that young guy if need be.

Miles still has a few years left in the tank, imo. And I would assume Steele would love to take the job at his alma mater.

Do the smart thing, UT, and get Miles on the phone. Of course, I think your program is too much of a cluster to do that.

Miles is the answer, tons of HC experience and WINS under his belt.

Makes too much sense and too good of a coach for us to consider hiring him.

Won't happen.

Miles will not be successful with a team with little instate talent. LSU was the prefect set up for him. He just refused to do anything different or recruit an average pro style QB who could manage a great running team. He's recruit dual threats who couldn't throw a football.

Steele is too good for Tenn, needs to HC one of the miss schools so we can have a conference play cupcake every year.

I keep hearing Steele’s name. Doesn’t he have anxiety issues or something? He would be a disaster head coach. I would hire several group of 5 coaches before taking a chance on him.

He’s been a HC and it was a huge disaster. He’s 9-26 as a HC.

Steele already had a shot at HC and disaster is an excellent description.

They could do a lot worse...solid recruiter, runs a clean program, knows how to win and when he was at LSU, the players seemed to love him and always played hard for him. If they wouldn't mind being a power-run team that has a 67%-33% run/pass ratio on offense, they might like him.

I can't believe Cutcliffe has not been given a shot.

Supposedly he gets very worked up right before a game and purportedly had to get an I.V. due to dehydration once when he was at Clemson. Another story I read (possibly apocryphal) is that in the Orange Bowl loss (70-33) to West Virginia in January 2012, he got so rattled that he started giving his defense call signals from his days with the Carolina Panthers.

5 years ago, miles was that guy. He hasn't been a good coach in a long time. IF he would take a million a year for one year I'd do it.

Otherwise, steele and cutcliffe would be great.

This alone should doom Steele.

Idiot.

LAST SECOND FUMBLE RETURN ROBS STEELE OF FIRST VICTORY

quote:

UNLV's Kevin Thomas returned a fumble 99-yard to score a touchdown with no time remaining as the Rebles upset Baylor 27-24 at Floyd Casey Stadium in Waco Saturday night.

The Bears led 24-21 with four seconds left on the clock when Darrell Bush was stripped on the goal line at the UNLV one yard line while trying to push his way to the endzone. But just when victory seemed assured, Rebel defensive back Thomas picked up the ball and returned it 99 yards for the touchdown as time expired.

"We were trying to create an atmospshere where we line up and get after people," coach Kevin Steele said of his decision not to have his quarterback take a knee on the game's final play.

Tennessee has a reputation now of being soft. One thing they would not be under Miles is soft. He may do some things that make you shake your head, but everyone better tighten up that chin strap when he leads a team on the field.

Would be a good caretaker for a few years. Re-establish your rep, then get the long term guy.
