What's the problem? They can still play their instruments while conforming to the stupid regulations that have been put in place.

Abatt 06 here, yeah, it's pretty damn stupid, but anyone who sees that and thinks that it is anything other than forced compliance from government overlords is just being obtuse.

You can't play a wind instrument wearing a mask, so they do this to check the box. Lots of marching bands are wearing those very same masks and I'm sure they all realize just how stupid it looks/is.

I’ve seen these with so many bands.
If anyone sees this and thinks “boy, they sure are keeping safe.” They are lacking in intellectual honesty.
So the schools/districts/whomever advocating for this and saying it’s worthwhile- you are also intellectually dishonest.

You’re correct it doesn’t make sense. It’s stupid. There’s also no excuse for y’all not perform at halftime. If Covid can’t find football players on the field I’m sure it will be unable to find band memebers. I booed during halftime at LSU because I’d like to see the band at half time and not a stupid visor board of them performing their half time show.
