As an LSU alum, after Skip left to become AD, as soon as it became obvious that his successor was all "Smoke" and no fire, I was pissed that our Dynasty had ended.

Seems you guys were on the same track. What do you think?

Check our running season-long thread on the SC board. No shortage of opinions there.

It needs to be checked now. I am saying fire Holbrook and his staff NOW.

I have seen this happen to almost all the SEC teams in one sport or another.

The trick is doing something about it quickly.

If Tanner lets it go beyond this season, he should be replaced, I don't care if he and Holbrook are joined at the hip.

South Carolina is an elite baseball program, so it should not be hard to replace this mess. However, one more year that might not be the case.

At Least when they dedicate "Ray Tanner Field" at Carolina Stadium (creative name BTW), you will be able to celebrate the fact that a relatively young man opted to, instead of pursuing a legacy for the ages, became the man behind the curtain, safe from the slings and arrows of on-field battle wounds.

At Least Bertman was an old man when he bailed. At least that's the rationale.

Thanks Professor Higgins. Any other grammatical deflections on hand or would you care to address the Topic?

I'm not a USC fan but I think I feel empathy having gone through a similar situation.

I'll work on my redundancy issue though.

I'm worried due to the sloppiness of our play but I'm not freaking out yet, especially when a lot of our contributors are freshmen and sophomores.

If we're struggling like this 2-3 years down the road....

But luckily the class that are freshmen now was the #4 class in the country, 2015 is currently #7 in the country and 2016 is #1 in the country according to Perfect Game.

So the young talent is there.

The lack of success this season I think boils down to us losing 3 of our best hitters and 2 from the middle of our lineup, Joey Pankake, Grayson Greiner and Tanner English. Also timely hitting and errors

I think it really boils down to our failure in the 2012 recruiting class, where we only have 2 contributors from that class in Jack Wynkoop and Max Schrock.

Give Holbrook some time and I think he will get it together. But right now....this isn't a fun season.

SEC baseball is best when South Carolina is at their best, I hope Holbrook is able to turn it around but you can tell the fire is missing this year.

We come out flat and play undisciplined defense. Every at bat seems to be a swing for the fences.... yeah painful to watch at times.

Our hitting has been bad for a few years, even under Tanners last years.

We just play flat. The teams doesn't look interested at all.

Tanner always wanted to be an AD, so I can't be pissed at him for moving into that role.

Yes, SC had an elite run of about 4-5 years, no doubt. Multiply that times 4 and you get where we were and where we went. On top of that, while PM did bring LSU a NC in 2009, he has largely underachieved since then, given the talent that LSU has had. I say take your coach and ours out all in the same year. I know there are a lot of LSU fans that don't agree about PM....but he has had more than his chance at LSU and if the Tigers don't make a deep run this year....it's time.

not pissed at Tanner. Ray earned the right to make the choice he did when the AD job opened up. I'm pissed at the current coach.

one year ago today Carolina baseball was ranked #1 in 4 of the 5 polls and beat Arkansas 2-1 in Baum game 1 of a double-header in signature comeback fashion to move to 26-3 (7-3) on the season. USC dropped game two that day 4-1 and for the first time since the 2010 post-season, USC was not able to find a way to come back and win a game in the relentless form that defined the recent championship seasons. Gamecocks finished last season 18-15 and things have not been the same since.

this season USC started 17-3, but sloppy defensive play and lack of 1 out & 2-out hitting to score runs has plagued this team all year. the competition picked up in league play and the result is 20-11 (5-6).

Holbrook needs to get to 40 wins overall and 15 in SEC play in order to avoid the worst season since 1999. there's 24 regular season games left along with 2 in Hoover. Holbrook has his work cut out for him.

Agree. Need at least one great team from the East and you just can't count on UF.
