Just watched "The Identity Theft of Mitch Mustain." Was Nutt really that stupid?
One more, did y'all ever consider Malzahn?

Nutt was stupid in addition to some other adjectives.

A lot of fans wanted him at the time. In the eyes of the fans, he was the hero and Nutt was the villain. However, no, it is almost certain that he was not seriously considered as a HC candidate after Nutt was fired the next year.

Nutt was trash. Fragile ego, and it was like high school stuff. Malzahn was the most mature person in that whole deal.
Malzahn wasn't seriously considered, mainly because Nutt was sort of entrenched with a lot of people. It would have been controversial at the time.

Everything he said is true.

Thanks, Hawg fans. I don't hassle nor flame--maybe excepting Tennessee--I really appreciate your answers.

Does this answer your question?

Yes

Fans did. The Brass likely didn't. He was only a year or 2 removed from being a high school coach. Jumping from that to SEC head coach with a weird offense would have been insane and could have made us a national embarrassment if anything went wrong. No P5 AD would have hired Malzahn at the time.

Ask Ole Miss about Nutt.
Garbage coach and even worse human being.
Malzahn is cut from the same cloth. Anybody that will pimp high school football players to get a job is a piece of shite.
ADD: If you want the low down about Malzahn then find Mustain and ask him about the situation.

I think Malzahn would have gotten serious consideration down the road but for the Nutt debacle.
Its not so much the pro-Nutt supporters would have soured the deal, as they've faded away, but rather that the school is a bit gun shy about hiring a coach with close ties to a major block of boosters in state.
Arkansas went through purgatory trying to get rid of Nutt with his Little Rock connections and if they had hired Malzahn they'd have faced the same problem given his close ties to the Springdale area. Bert and Bobby were both outsiders to the state so shitecanning them wouldn't stir up the natives so to speak.
Though we've negated much of that with Bert by putting that overly generous buyout in his contract.
