Has your program forgotten about the TE's as a skill player?

Since the departure of JaBarkus Rustler, LSU has seemingly not utilized the TE outside of Richard Dickson in '07. We've used it as a glorified Extra Tackle.
What about the rest of the programs in the SEC? I know Bama loves their TE and AJ used them as a very effective part of their passing offense. The word around LSU is that Mett pushed the ball to Juice and ODB to the detriment of the TE's simply because of their talent, but I want us to use them more this year.
But what about the rest of the SEC? Are you happy with your TE's role in your program's offensive package?

It would seem so. Historically Georgia has had some excellent TE's but we don't so seem to have had as much talent in that position recently which possibly explains the decrease in utilization.

We have started to try to get them more involved recemtly and I think our TE will have 30-40 catches a season from here on out.

I'm keeping my finger crossed that Spurrier utilizes ours more this year. We've got two good ones and maybe three now that Owens is finally coming around.
Spurrier has been saying he was going to do it, but I think Shaw's style was not conducive to dumping off to TEs whereas Thompson is far more like to check down to his TEs or dump to them instead of the RB more often when he's in trouble.

Dooley was actually decent with TEs. I think CBJ is one of the best in cfb when it comes to utilization of the TE.

Not at all. TE is a very important offensive tool in CBB's offense. Watch Hunter Henry, Jeremy Sprinkle and even AJ Derby this season.

Y'all have had some good ones over the years - unfortunately the best one was a thug, but damn he was good. I'm not talking about Jason Witten either. I'm talking about Dustin Moore.
UGA, for decades, always impressed me with their tight ends. They were really TE U for a long time IMHO.
We've had some good ones over the years like Jay Saldi and Willie Scott, and some, several actually, who are still in the NFL like Jared Cook, Weslye Saunders and now Justice Cunningham. And we're about to have a couple more in Jerell Adams and Busta Robinson.
I hope Spurrier uses them this season - they are weapons.

Richt uses tight ends just like in the nfl with his pro style offense. We are one of the only teams in sec with one of our 9 ncaa mandated coaches being a TE coach. John Lilly. He coaches 3 guys.

Bielema probably utilizes the TE more than anyone in the country outside of Stanford. I expect to see pretty big numbers out of Hunter Henry this year.
Vandy's installing the Stanford offense so they should have pretty nice production from the TE as well.

QUick check on ESPN shows UGA has 3 tight ends currently on NFL rosters.
Demarcus Dobbs
Ben Wastson
Arthur Lynch
Leonard Pope was also drafted in 2006 and was in the league for 6 years. He was on our SECC team in 2005.
ETA- The trend will likely continue with an incoming freshman named Jeb Blazevich who participated in the WR group in a Nike Camp where he won Best Receiver.... as a tight end.

I was really disappointed in how little we used OJ Howard last season. I'm thinking that will change this season.

Our previous OC Yost used TE's as glorified receivers, a la Chase Coffman & Martin Rucker.
This style didn't translate well to the SEC as you can imagine... so OC Henson now utilizes our TE in the more traditional style. The TE position now is used mostly in blocking and catches the occasional pass. I'm interested to see if that changes this season due to a loss of talent at WR position.

Florida has had some solid TEs for a while, although Burton was more of a HBack than a pure TE. Hopefully Jake Magee, who transferred from UVA and can play, will be of impact. He and Driskel have been working together quite a bit.

I really liked the TEs that came from Missouri when those drafts happened. Even Michael Egnew, as well.

Florida ran it with Aaron Hernandez, but they also had him lined up on the line but also in the backfield to catch passes.

I've forgotten what a skill player is on offense.
