The Heisman was turning into a popularity contest anyways. More than it already was, tbh.

Yep, marketing is the most important element.

wo horse race between Dak and Mariota. If State wins Saturday you can give it to Dak then,

What if Dak throws 4 interceptions and no touchdowns but State wins?

It sounds dumb, but Dak doesnt seem to have any of the signature "Holy shite!" moments that manziel or Cam had.

Depends on what games you were watching. On his big run against LSU I thought I was looking at the 2nd coming of Cam. I was having flashbacks to 2010 when Cam ran all over LSU.

I put the likely hood of that happening at 0.01%

The playoff being implemented this year has without a doubt a taken some of the Heisman hype away..

If you go back and watch LSU, Aub, a&m games you'll see quite a few highlight reel how the heck did he do that plays. Also, a few plays in the KY game

Just ready for Saturday,IMO that's where his Heisman will be won/lost

No. The issue is there is not really a great player this year. Everyone is kind of meh.

It's really almost nonexistent at this point.

I actually like this. IMO its a BS award. It doesn't go to best player, or most valuable player. You have to be a RB, or more likely, a QB, on a top team.
I think the Thorpe, Doak Walker, or so forth, means more.

Mariotta has it locked. It would have been interesting race between HM and Gurley. But now it's over already, would take a disaster at this point , an injury that causes him 2 miss the rest of the season.

I think the Heisman should be awarded after the season is over. I also think that Winston's behavior has hurt the award's reputation. I think this year some of the voters are going to work a little to find out a little about the candidate's character before voting.

Melvin Gordon and Gurley are better.

THIS! and Abdullah.

MG is averaging 160 a game, and would have at least 150 yards in every game had he not gotten hurt against LSU, where he only played a half. This dude is getting no love and it's a shame.

Mariota doesn't play in a league with real defense, and should be automatically disqualified. Gurley missed three games and should be disqualified.

The only people even in the conversation should be Dak and MG.

What is Dak throws for 300 yds, 2 tds, and rushes for over 100 with a TD, and we lose due to poor defensive play?

Well, there's no thieves, drug users or rapists in the running this year, so... not as news worthy.

It's a fricking shame but this is the correct answer.

and other awards to a lesser degree? Seems there is hardly any interest or talk about the Heisman, which is kinda odd this late in the season. I know there isn't a lot from the conference in the mix, but still....

I sure hope so! Everything is becoming about individual accomplishments and not team successes. There's already too much LOOK AT ME!...SEE ME! crap that goes on during football (and basketball) games. Announce all-American teams at the end of the year and be done with it.

Heisman trophies don't go to the player with the best stats.

Mariota? Are we talking about the guy on a team that lost AT HOME to Arizona?

How can he possibly be ahead of Dak after a State loss against Alabama in Bryant-Denny?

Cam Newton was insane during his Heisman season.

I think Cam was great, but I think more than anything he benefited from bringing Auburn out of nowhere to play this exciting brand of football. He was a big guy that was playing ball different than anyone before at Auburn. Johnny Football and Mariota stat wise are better. I think you would have seen a significant drop off in Cam's production had he stayed for another season. His season was the ultimate one and done. Auburn played that season perfectly.
