Holtz won National coach of the year. He was given tons of credit for the job he did. 2 straight outback bowls was huge for USCe during that time. The only reason his legacy has diminished was his career there ended with a massive brawl in the USCe/Clemson game IIRC.

Usually happens when a twit asks a really dumb question I think.

You either
A) dont know jack about SEC football
B) dont know jack about South Carolina football

Brad Scott, he of the famous Bowden diddy farmhouse singlehandedly set USC back ten years. I think it was the Christmas gift of a 90,000 check he got for helping out Diddys son at Clemson, or maybe not....but it sounds good.

S Carolina is mentioned when talking about the SEC east....that didnt use to be...especially when Spurrier was at UF thumping them...hanging 60 one time as I recall.

Spurrier doesnt have the high school athletes that Florida does in its backyard. There are very good athletes in SC, but he still has to recruit the Ga/Fl/NC areas.

He was given credit back then. But not so much now because of the job Spurrier has done. I remember his accomplishments rather vividly.

Well Holtz is on tv making an arse of himself all the time now too. And everyone hates watching him and they make fun of him. And I tell these kids that he's actually one of the greatest coaches of all time - huge success at ND, Arky, and USCe and they don't even believe me.

He's built a strong program and continues to make it stronger.

Despite the fact that I don't care for Lou and he makes an arse of himself on ESPN, we have to give him some credit here.

Lou Holtz took the program from pathetic to mediocre. Spurrier took the program from mediocre to very good. Neither took the program from nothing to championship, but both have done a good job.

Awe such an angry little kid this morning, would disappointment be a better word than failure for you?
Had you been around when Spurrier was hired you would see that he hasn't met many of the expectations the SC crowd had at the time on this board

No way. USCe was the pre-Synder Kansas State of the east, historically.

Because the 3 or 4 USC fans that must have been on this board at that time really display what the USC fanbase as a whole was expecting. Where the frick is this coming from anyway? He isn't even done coaching so why are you trying to decide if he his a failure before he retires?

Made a thread about Spurrier's 1st here a while ago. No.. he is not a failure.

Yeah, and those 4 USCe fans at the time probably just became fans BECAUSE Spurrier was hired...

As the LsU, Alabama, (insert team) on this board really reflects the majority of their respective fan bases eh?

This, plus routinely frustrating Nick Saban.

I don't think so. Do you? I think you do because why else would you say what you said about USC fans having higher expectations than what is being met? Also, there are a lot more LSU and Bama fans here than USC fans and you can definitely gauge a fanbase more accurately.

No you can't really, 50-100 people accurately gauge fan base of thousands? Similarly the 15-20 SC fans at time (along with other posters) don't accurately measure the entire fan base.

Spurrier has been a disappointment in a sense only making it to 1 SEC championship game and 0 BCS games in 8 years. His "rebuilding" isn't as bad as some believe as Holtz had a good run before him.

Also, Lou Holtz accomplished his rebuilding with the distinct disadvantage of potentially drowning his players every time he spoke to them.
