kind of hard to be a team that has never won anything

Head to head they've obviously had more success the last 4 years, but overall we've had about the same amount of success. It's looking like they bought their success, so this may be an invalid argument.

Mississippi State has won the west (outright) and dominated Bama from 1996-98 and from 2006-07. State had been dominating the egg bowl (2009-2013) and overall did cool things, like 10 win seasons and #1 ranking, consistency.

But recently, Ole Miss has been beating Bama and dominating the egg bowl. They even won a sugar bowl. They are cheating at a high level and have a star QB, a passer. Meanwhile, Dak is gone

Is it safe to say that Ole Miss has finally surpassed Miss State?

Since Sherrill was hired by State in 1991, OM and State have been back and forth with better teams (than the other) in 2-3 year stretches, but neither has had a better 'program' since. The Egg Bowl is 13-12 for MSU since 1991. Best recruits in Mississippi have gone to both schools even when one was down.

In 2003 State fired Sherrill, had probation looming, and OM won 10 games, so it looked like OM would/could leave State behind. However, OM fell soon after and both were bad for a few years.

In 2008 and 2009 OM had improved to back-to-back Cotton Bowls, but State fired Croom and hired Mullen and was able to pull ahead when Nutt's teams dropped. OM hired Freeze and both have been relatively even since with the same number of wins both over that time period and over the past two seasons.

Now OM has probation looming, but even if OM gets hammered I still doubt that State will be better than OM for more than 2-3 years. OM and State are both better equipped money and facility-wise to prevent faltering like each did in the 2000's.
