Has Blake Sims' Success Changed/Will Change The Type of QB Bama Recruits?

I ask because Blake is an improvement over McCarron and it's really tough for defenses to focus on Bama's passing or running backs when there's a QB who is a running threat in addition to a passing threat.

Alabama has never really made an effort to feature Sims' running ability.

Blake Barnett is the top dual threat QB and he is committed to Bama. He will enroll in January.

I don't think of Winston as a dual threat.

Good question. I would think Kiffin, if he stays, would have a lot to say about it.

I think Kiffin played a big part in recruiting the Barnett kid.

Then I hope he stays.

I still don't think anyone is ready yet to turn the keys to a program over to Kiffin, so right now this is probably the best job he can get. Think he'll be here a couple more years.

IMO, not really, I think we still search for someone who is a good game manager. Not someone with just great physical ability. That's actually why Sims got the nod over Coker... cause he was better at reading defenses, knowing the plays, getting people set and in position, etc.
but hey, if they can do all that and got legs too... frick yeah we will take them and start them.
ETA: I also think it's hard to judge a QB coming out of highschool on how good they will be as a game manager and how good they will be at reading good defenses... So even though we recruit playmakers, the best game managers are gonna win the battle.

I don't think blake is an improvement over McCarron. Blake makes alot of great plays with both his arm and his legs, he has also made a lot of mistakes. McCarron was more consistent, made less mistakes, and was better at reading defenses IMO. But, blake can make plays with his legs, is pretty consistent (especially as the year has gone on), and is decent at reading defenses... But blake has also had a LOT of help from amari cooper...
I really like Blake Sims, probably more than McCarron because of what he overcame to earn the starting job, but he will never make it in NFL and probably won't even get drafted... there is a reason for that.

I cringed when we hired Kiffin, 'bout like 99.999% of Bama fans. I'd cringe the same way, if he were to leave. I hope you're right.
Still wouldn't buy a used car from him though.

Just going on the basis of one season, Blake is better. Sure, the numbers bear this out but looking beyond the numbers, Blake is a better passer especially of the deep ball. Blake seems to have a knack of always hitting a receiver in stride. I remember a lot of deep balls from AJ where the receiver had to wait for the ball giving the DB the chance to tackle the receiver.
Aside from the Auburn game, Blake's mistakes have been minimal and that's a big reason why he never lost his job.
I think McCarron needed one of the greatest offensive lines in college football history to be a great player. If McCarron was playing behind your offensive line this season he'd look like he looked his last season at Bama - a liability when facing a team with speedy pass rushers.

Blake has come a long way in one year... it's hard for me to compare him to McCarron cause I think about McCarron in his final seasons vs blake's only season.. But Blake sucked it up pretty bad at the beginning... he had numerous over and under thrown balls... mostly under thrown. To be honest I didn't think he had the arm to throw the deep ball acurately until about 2/3 through this season. Bama survived early on the short passes, only in the last few games has blake really come along. And that's including one that he through 3 picks in to Auburn...
Blake's good, better at times than McCarron, but McCarron was more consistent and less likely to frick up. Turnovers cost you games, we were lucky against auburn.
What I will give sims over McCarron is his willingness to take some risks.. I think both McCarron and McElroy could be too conservative at times and only throw to what they considered the sure thing. Many teams have given us fits when their QBs were more willing to throw it up and trust their receiver to win the battle. A&M especially.

I'd go further than that and say Alabama has...so far...held him back from his true running potential.

But, I'll say when you all have featured his running ability or when Blake improvised and ran those times were timely as hell.

I was stoked when Kiffin was hired. Dude knows offense and can recruit. Getting him at Alabama as OC was the perfect storm with Saban as head coach. If you would have told me back in 2006 that the Miami Dolphins head coach and the future Oakland Raiders head coach would eventually both be coaching at Alabama at the same time, I would have slapped you in your retarded face.

No doubt man. He's timely as hell...and healthy. I honestly think Saban has gone out of his way to keep Sims healthy. Alabama would have 4 losses without Sims imo.
