Parents are bama fans, when I saw Bo Jackson I started caring about football. Even before I was an AU fan I didn't care for bama because all my parents friends that watched the games there were annoying and arrogant like it was them who actually won something. Had a best friend who's family was auburn. COMPLETELY different type of fanbase experience.

Then you know bama grads make a lot less money than AU grads during their career in general.

Spin it how you like or whatever makes you feel better, but that is the reality.

I agree with this. Bama gets more of the liberal arts types while Au gets more of the science and technology types.

Which is why AU grads will always be on a higher social tier in society than bama grads overall. Better education and degree = more money = greater socio economic status.

3 generations of AU graduates ahead of me.. about to make it 4.

I doubt the process of becoming a fan here differs than any other place in the country.

AU has always been known as the superior school. The "reputation" of bama has always been of a second tier school in the state (compared to AU). As for socio economic class... AU grads make a lot more money than bama grads. Always have, always will. End of discussion.

This is cute.

There are hardly ANY Bama or Barn families. Most are split. My parents are AU, my sister and me are Bama. I became a Bama fan in 1973 when I went to the Sugar Bowl against ND. The game was so big. TV always talked about Alabama, Bama was the team, it carried my states namesake. It just made sense. My two grandfathers were Auburn, my two grandmothers were Alabama. I have 26 cousins. 19 of which are Alabama the remainder are Auburn. My father in law is a Bama guy and his sister Auburn. Families very rarely root all one way. Other than what I mentioned I also became a Bama fan because my father was Auburn.

Yeah that's wrong.

It may be right in families that don't have any affiliation with the universities which seems to be your case. But for the majority, that is wrong.

True. But she only chose bama to give my dad the bird, she could have gone to a lot better schools. Ended up with a great brother in law out of her going, so it worked out

Dad is an Auburn Fan. Mom's side grandfather graduated from Auburn, but that never really factored into it. Currently a student at Auburn.

Was Ex Navy vet originally from New Jersey a long long time ago. Married a Mobile Girl from Alabama Family. Before I met them, The only College FB game. I had ever attended, was (whoopee do) Princeton Vs. Brown U....lines HS game compared to Big Boy Football here in The SEC.

My late Father was a Big ND fan.....yea, before he passed away I tried to teach him how it is...sadly he still loved the Golden Domers....Screw Them.....Roll Tide!!

You guys and in particular that one nonsensical idiot I was responding to always assert that Auburn is worthless because it is a land grant school.

Typical Alabama fan: "Barn der der Barner der der cow college der der."

I was pointing out that a land grant school has done more for the state of Alabama than one that supposedly produces all these excellent lawyers and doctors. I am sorry that you took such great offense.

Alabama's economy is what 85% agriculturally based. Again I am just a "stupid barner" so what the frick do I know.

I actually attended the institution of which I am a fan. Something that is somewhat unique to most Auburn fans as compared to other fan bases.

Everyone in my family is an Alabama fan. They're assholes. So I'm an auburn fan.

Not really, Alabama is just a significantly larger (almost 40%) school overall then Auburn with the flagship graduate schools in business and law. Auburn is the traditional land grant university. It's not a slight on the school, but Auburn's always going to be somewhat stereotyped that way, despite having some other excellent academic programs.

As mentioned, it's very similar to UVa-VaTech, Mich-Mich St, UNC-NCState and others in this cultural dynamic

I grew up in Florida in the late 70s early 80s and was a Gator fan. Got a football scholarship to Hinds Jr College and transferred to Auburn to finish my career. I was blown away by the spirit of Auburn the minute I stepped on campus. It is a perspective only Auburn people feel and understand. Never have had hatred for Alabama players but only true respect. The hatred that exist lies only in a faction of the fan base.

This is just a recent phenomenon. For at least thirty years prior auburn has been the larger institution.

You guys really overstate the size of the law program in comparison to your overall university. It's a small percentage.
