Crean to MU and Marshall to LSU would make SEC basketball interesting again.

I think we won't pay enough, nor why would he come here?

Alleva is nowhere near competent enough to pull off a Gregg Marshall hire.

Crean couldn't win at IU.

I still think Marshall holds out for the Indiana job.

Crean couldn't get over the Sweet 16 hump at Indiana. It's a vast improvement from Anderson but Mizzou might be better off taking a Richard Pitino type.

LSU will screw this up. Alleva can't even get the firing right. Why it took 36 hours to make this official is beyond explanation. Then he said "fit is a joke" when "fit" was really the whole reason he hired Orgeron.

We need a coach with experience at this point.

Crean handled IUs "rebuild" nicely. I think KA got the ship to even keel, it was listing 30 degrees portside when he took over.

Now we need a captain that can navigate back to the tournament.

Whoever comes to LSU is going to have to really hustle because the program has been neglected and the fan goodwill is gone. There is room in the SEC for that "second program" and LSU has been that program before (1978-1991)(as has Arkansas and UF) but it's going to take an overhaul. And how does anybody figure Joe Aleeva is the man to hire the guy that could do it?

Would Bama fans be able to whine, moan and groan about Marshall to LSU like L6U fans still cry about Saban to Bama? Especially if Marshall ends up owning
Avery ?

Why? Has Marshall ever coached at Bama and left?

Avery already owns Marshall.

Crean won the B10 2 of the last 5 years and beat kansas and North Carolina this year before injuries. Didn't he knock out Kentucky last year from the tournament? I think that is a good enough resume for Mizzou.

Really?

He took over a program with ONE scholarship player. ONE

They haven't won a title in 30 years. It's a blueblood school, but most of their success is 20+ years ago.

They've reached the sweet 16 4 times in the past 22 seasons, Crean is responsible for 3 of those. They've won their conference 3 times in the past 23 seasons, Crean is responsible for 2 of those.

If we hire Crean, he's instantly the 3rd most accomplished coach in this league and Howland is at MSU where it might be difficult for him to be a real factor. Little doubt that Crean would have Mizzou a MAJOR player in the SEC once he got the ball rolling.

"(1978-1991) LSU"

Agree with LSU being the #2 program during this time. I'd argue that Bama was a very close #3 from 1974-1992

I think Marshall is holding out for a big time blue blood program where basketball is clearly the #1 sport. Only reason I don't think he would take the LSU job. Basketball despite having a strong history at LSU is a distant 3rd way behind football and baseball

Were there not plenty of message board posts linking Marshall all but signed sealed and delivered to Bama, pre-Avery? Stop being deliberately obtuse.

Oh, there were. Marshall visited Tuscaloosa like twice during the entire courship. Oddest thing I've ever experienced in a coaching search. Usually when they visit the campus it's a formality.
