He threw only 4 Interceptions in 325 passes in 2009, giving the Crimson Tide QB the second-lowest interception ratio for any player in SEC history who threw at least 200 passes in a season. McElroy was intercepted every 80.2 passes this season, second in the conference record book to Tennessee's Peyton Manning, who had four of his 380 passes intercepted in 1995.

Credit to Mark Inabinett of the Birmingham News for finding this stat.

Half of his passes weren't catchable by any WR or DB

Him and JJ had just about the same stats and LSU people are wanting to bench him. its amazing what a good line and dominate run game can do for a qb. i wish LSU fans knew this.

Great stat, and he did a great job, but phenomenal probably is not the word.

Make no mistake about it. Saban will not let his offense beat his defense when he's got a good one. And I expect you'll see a good defense most years, so don't expect a phenom at QB any time soon.

Unless Saban leaves.

The good thing is that we don't need an amazing QB to win. Just need him to not lose the game for us

He completed 60.9% of his passes - which set an Alabama single season record. Not even Joe Namath, Bart Starr, or Ken Stabler were that accurate.

People here are just bitter about his success. The SEC rant expert all claimed Bama would suffer and lose games with him starting because he did not beat out JPW in previous years. Little did they know......

Was the game manager he was asked to be. I think next year will be somewhat different.

Well, if that qualifies as phenomenal, then so be it in your world.

Alabama ran a very controlled passing game, not throwing the ball downfield. A high completion percentage is not surprising. Hell, Jordan Jefferson must be hyper-phenomenal in your book.

Alabama went a stretch of games without Julio Jones even touching the ball. His big play versus LSU was a two yard pass against a backup.

I guess my point is that McElroy was as phenomenal as Tee Martin, Matt Mauck, Chris Leak, and Matt Flynn. He did what was asked of him. He protected the ball and didn't take big risks, and even ran on a few significant occasions.

That makes him a winner, but not necessarily phenomenal. You could give a multiple choice of adjectives to describe his performance this season, and I'm fairly certain even those in Alabama would not select phenomenal.
