Bama now has the best football coach AND the best AD in the SEC. Roll Tide!

quote:
-- University president Stuart Bell said Bill Battle, who is at the news conference, has made a significant impact and added that he and his wife, Mary, were terrific ambassadors of the institution.
-- Bell said that Greg Byrne had the integrity and experience the university was looking for in its next athletic director.
-- Bell cited Arizona's facility upgrades that Byrne spearheaded and praised his fundraising efforts.
-- Byrne opened by joking that he didn't bring the rain from Arizona.
-- Byrne said "we're going to work our tail off."
-- Byrne said he's honored to work with Nick Saban, "not only one of the greatest football coaches of all time, but one of the greatest coaches of all time." Saban is the only coach Byrne has mentioned thus far in the news conference.
-- Byrne said "it is great to be back in the SEC."
-- Byrne said he admires the history of Alabama and thought at a young age "what a special place this is."
-- Byrne said it is really important to show respect for the tradition that exists at Alabama. He said "these are historical times" at Alabama and added that it is important to support Saban's efforts. He also explained that it's essential that Alabama needs to have a vision for the future and that the administration can "never be complacent."
-- Byrne mentioned men's basketball coach Avery Johnson and Kristy Curry, the women's basketball coach.
-- Byrne concluded his remarks with the customary "Roll Tide!"

I can link the Bammer threads on your board showing the many gumps who have no idea who Byrne is and why they should be excited. Enlighten us..

His reputation within college football circles is impeccable. He has a very solid track record. Virtually every other fan base on this board loathes their AD so you tell me, who is better?

The hire was praised by just about anyone who would know something about it. It came out of left field when nobody was expecting the news.
I am not calling him the best AD but would be happy to read any links you can provide saying it was a bad move.

That's the plan. Mississippi State was a stop to make this more than "Alabama AD promoted to SEC Commissioner."
Although I could see Stricklin as commissioner as well. MSU had two consecutive great athletic directors.
Byrne is a fundraising and facility genius. Stricklin is a marketing genius who learned facilities from Byrne.

There's only one thread jackass and it's mine.
I've been to busy to keep up with ADs across the country.
Maybe petition Chicken to start an AD board so people like me won't create such rancor trying to learn a little about the man about to take over or athletic department.

He's actually been an unofficial adviser on Saban's staff for a while now.

Not every fanbase can be as well informed about all of the inner workings that occur within an athletic department like the barners. You truly are a gifted, special breed.
