in a big way this weekend against some very solid OOC teams
Auburn plays #2 Clemson
Ole Miss plays #4 Florida State
Texas A&M plays #16 UCLA
Alabama plays #20 USC
Georgia plays #22 North Carolina
That's 5 games this weekend alone against Top 25 teams.... with LSU playing Wisconsin as well. Arkansas plays #13 TCU next week.
I hope this becomes the norm.
Going back to 1980, the SEC has not played as many high profile OOC regular season games compared to the top teams in other leagues. If you take the 15 elite programs currently in a Power conference (no Notre Dame), here is how many OOC teams they average playing each regular season that FINISHED ranked in the AP Top 25:
1.45- Florida State (OOC ranked teams per season)*
1.22- USC
1.19- Florida
0.92- Texas
0.86- Michigan
0.86- Oklahoma
0.75- Nebraska
0.72- Tennessee
0.69- Georgia
0.67- Miami*
0.63- LSU
0.58- Ohio State
0.53- Auburn
0.53- Alabama
0.52- Penn State*
*Florida State's, Miami's, and Penn State's teams were totaled from the point they joined a Power Conference (Florida State in '92... Miami in '04... and Penn State in '93)
The SEC teams average 0.72 such opponents per season
The non-SEC teams average 0.87 such opponents per season. That means they have been 20% more likely to play a better OOC team in the regular season compared to the top tier SEC teams.
Hopefully this is the new normal going forward.

I like it as well but it is the age old argument.
"Why should I play more ranked OOC teams when I have numerous ranked opponents already on my schedule?"

Your argument sucks. Thank God the BCS is dead and teams don't have to schedule like wussies anymore for fear of being left out of the playoffs.

Should be a great game. I would much rather play a good OOC game. Like I stated above. But there is always a argument for not doing it. BCS or no BCS...
We have been pretty consistent playing 1 good OOC team each year. We have some great games coming up as well.

The SEC has always stepped it up with OOC games. We just never get credit for it, and because traditionally it is not the 1st or 2nd weekend of the year, we get unfairly dogged in the media and fans of other conferences don't know better. Few other conferences have their chief rival in another conference outside the SEC/ACC. So, you hear Florida and Georgia getting dogged for playing xyz state while getting no credit for playing Ga Tech/FSU.
For example, Georgia plays Georgia Tech, Florida plays Florida State, South Carolina plays Clemson.
