Auburn rally concluded w runner being called out for going out of baseline - I thought. They went to commercial and then I saw Georgia batting in bottom of 7th trailing 4-3. I thought the running out of baseline ended w double play and score tied 3-3. I obviously missed something. Please explain what the official ruling was on that play. Thanks.

BTW: I think Georgia 2nd baseman would have been better off throwing ball to 1st base after Auburn player ran out of baseline. Would have been double play for sure and wining run would not have scored.

Found explanation:

Still seems like Hugo? (2nd baseman for Ga.) would have completed double play had she let Auburn runner continue going out of baseline and then throw to 1st.
Great game none the less. Thought Ga. had this one!

AU first base coach assisted the runner who thought inning was over.

When he touched her, she was out.

Runner to second was out.

Runner scored, then coach touched player at first base and she was out.

I think it was a similar ruling to if a runner had scored prior to a base running error that ends the inning. Run stands but inning is over

I immediately said this as it happened. Instincts need to take over. Push someone out of the baseline, throw to first. She choked pretty big yesterday in the field.

as an Ala fan, like most, I have hard time for pulling for our rival but that was a really great win, very impressive.

Good luck Auburn. I hope you win it!

That was the 3rd time in 4 games UGA has played against Auburn that they've managed to pull the rug out from underneath us in the final inning.

UGA made it much further than anyone had believed they would (and they'll have a chance against LSU to keep it going) so I'm far from upset by the loss yesterday but, damn, we had what? 4 errors? And I think at least 2 maybe 3 were on Hugo alone? Just as FSU found out against us in Game 1, you can't pull that shite in the WCWS and expect to win.

the crazy thing about UGA and the errors is that until late in the game they had played really great defensively

your 2B especially

I think it's process of getting used to winning in the spotlight. In Myers first year we struggled with closing the deal as well and got better last season. This year most of the girls have played in the WCWS and other big games so doesn't phase them. UGA team definitely on the come up. SEC softball is ridiculous

I donno. Coming within 3 outs of the semis in that type of fashion would piss me off. You'd be sitting back with 2 shots at the final as a 16 seed with Michigan out of the tournament. Now, you're down 2-0 facing elimination.

Unfortunately we lose a lot of solid seniors from this team: Iosefa at 1B, Hugo at 2B, Katie Browne at C, Sam Lazear at CF, Wilkinson at P, and Kayle Puailoa who hit the walk-off against UF

Harris-Champer has been a very solid coach for us and has been at UGA since 2000. Hopefully this run yields some solid recruiting results down the line and the younger players like Sumerlin, Emanuel and DiCarlo are able to get back to this point as Juniors and Seniors

We were the lowest rated team coming into the WCWS and the lowest rated national seed going into the tournament (IIRC). The fact that we swept #1 UF in a super regional on the road and then beat FSU in Game 1 is a pretty outstanding accomplishment for a team that wasn't expected to even make it to OKC. I'm not happy with yesterday's result but I'm not distraught either. Auburn is now and has been one of the best teams in the country this season. As good as this UGA team can be when it's firing on all cylinders, there's a reason why we were ranked where we were coming into this and, after facing top team after top team, something was bound to cost us eventually. And yesterday it finally happened.

Hoping you can come back, but both of you would have a good chance against Oklahoma.
