Georgia is one of the most talent rich states in America. And, you get raided every year. You have Georgia Tech there as the other in state school, but really, they should not be major competetion.

If LSU loses a couple of top recruits out of Louisiana, there is pandemonium. We start crying "the fence is down" and everyone loses it. So, Miles goes out and hires Ed Orgeron to help Frank Wilson and put the fence back up.

Georgia gets raided every year by the whole SEC and Georgia fans are like, "What do you want us to do?"

Is this a cultural thing with Atlanta being more of a conglomeration from people from around the South? Is UGA not interested in locking down the state?

I just think that Georgia is a sleeping giant that has been good, but could be so much better.

Atlanta is nothing like any other city in the South. People don't understand the concept that all the kids with "GA" next to their name aren't necessarily UGA kids. Atlanta is an international city with people from all over the world, country and region. Atlanta has more UGA folks than any other school but it also has a frickton of Auburn, Alabama, Clemson, Florida, etc etc folks, as well as Ohio State, Michigan, UCLA, UVA, etc and, GASP, people from schools that don't give a frick about football.

Kids from Atlanta don't generally grow up (a) groomed to go to UGA or (b) with any pressure to go to UGA.

It's a totally different ballgame than other southern states.

Go get yourself a map and mark power 5 schools in the southeast. Then you'll see why Georgia's situation is different than LSU's.

That's not even taking into account the regional melting pot that is Atlanta.

UGA's recruiting future is as a regional power. Trying to "put up a fence" is a waste of time. It would be impossible.

Exactly, Then you have to look at proximity. Kids that grow up in the Deep South Georgia are literally 30 minutes from Tallahassee so it's easy to go to games there so they have big followings for that team in south Georgia. Alot of our West Georgia kids and Atlanta kids grow up loving Auburn because of how close it is to them. Proximity as a fan and being able to see games is big. Georgia will never have the border control that other teams have on their states because of this.

Not to mention graduates of other state schools come to Georgia (mostly Atlanta) in much larger numbers than any other school's alums go to another state.

Kids from UGA/LSU/UT don't flock to Birmingham or Jackson, MS. Those cities are 90% grads/fans of Alabama or Auburn or Ole Miss or State.

The only other area that is anything close to Atlanta is Nashville (and the Florida cities, but they're a different world), and the recruiting map is similar in where kids go. Tennessee also has the same issues with distance for kids in Memphis as UGA does for kids from Valdosta and Thomasville.

We will never fully control the state. Which is why we recruit all the way up the East Coast and down into Florida. We understand our base.

I'm a prime example. Born in Atlanta, left around age 10, moved here after college to work. Love Atlanta, but an alum of Alabama from a family of Alabama alums. My kids will be Alabama fans and hopefully grads someday.

As anyone from Atlanta knows probably 2/3 of their friends are like me, not UGA folks. That situation doesn't exist anywhere else in the South.

Has it ever bothered you in the past when your AD brags about the profit margin of UGA? Especially when your program has some real needs which were not met?

That's why our AD is under massive pressure right now. Much more so than Richt.

UGA has full-capacity average per game numbers every year, regardless of our record. We dont bitch and moan, and not show up for games. In the mid 2000's, Alabama could sit 84,000+ but never had close to full capacity.

My buddy got season tickets, which he still has, on the 40 yardline, home side in 2005 because you couldnt sell them out.

Yea, the idea that you would WANT your A.D. making a bunch of money is just dumb. Good financial stewards? Of course. Making huge net profits? Um, no.

That's just hilariously false. Like, not even close. I went to every home game from 2003 - 2007 as a student (and the majority of them previously since 1995 and since then). Every single game outside of the occasional FAU or Western Carolina game was filled to the brim.

It just isn't true.

I've always thought Georgia--at least in football--should be a perennial giant in the SEC and nationally. Among other things, they're located down the street from the city that so many young blacks see as America's best city to live in. Big recruiting advantage right there, imo. Why no national championships in 30 years is a mystery to me.

It bothers the ever living frick out of every UGA fan that has a pulse. We know what our problems are.

Kid's don't care about that when choosing a place to play college football. And while it isn't super far away, Athens is not Atlanta and feels nothing like Atlanta.
