not trying to jinx anything, but it’s fun to discuss. If the Dawgs 3peat, how would you rank the following teams of all time within the program?

2023
2022
2021
2017
2002
1983
1982
1981
1980

I’m sure I’ll get some backlash for putting in years where there were losses, but some of those teams were just as good, maybe even better than the undefeated teams as far as roster talent.

I know 2017 was two losses with the CFPNCG coming down to the last play, but I’m partial to that team. They were good enough to win it all; and the Rose Bowl result still stings somewhat.

The 2012 SEC conference championship game was the de facto national title game & UGA's 2012 team was a play or two away from winning that game and would have demolished ND like Bama did.

Probably would have bought Richt another 10 years.

That 2017 team with Chubb and Sony was something special.

This team has surprised me.
I still don't think it's as good as our NC teams but they have developed well as the season progressed.
Our defense is not as good as our last 2 defenses especially on the DL and LBs.
And yes, we are missing Bennett's significant dual-threat but Beck is making up for that with more accurate passing.
Fortunately, the OL is doing a good job of protecting Beck but our running game is often lacking.
This team might have a chance to run the table but it's going to take continued improvement on offense and defense with plenty of smart and creative playcalling.

Can't type as much on phone but 81 and 83 don't belong on the list, especially 81.

It's somewhat controversial but many think 82 was better than 80. Only difference is 82 lost the Natty on a 4th quarter hail Mary bomb. If that one play doesn't happen it's likely a consensus that 82 is much better than 80.

02 was excellent but it's hard to compare it since today feels like a different era. I'd put 21 just ever so slightly above 22. And 23 below both of them.

I guess my off the cuff answer would go

21
22
23
17
02
82
80
83
81

Good post, wish we had more of these type of threads on here instead of the troll/flame posts. Here is how I would rank each team:

2022(w/o a doubt the greatest team in program history)
2021
1980
1982
2017
2002
1981
1983

I'm gonna leave 2023 out for now until everything gets played out. If they finish the job and 3-peat they'll slot in at #2 behind last year's team.

One of the top-5 greatest games in conference history. Just a heavyweight bout.

That was a game any fan of any team would enjoy watching. A slugfest. It made no sense to me that Georgia's narrow loss relegated them to the Citrus Bowl while Florida, by virtue of not playing in the SEC title game, got to go to the Sugar Bowl.

I'm just glad that a fan of another school posted something about 1980 that wasn't making fun of us.

These are the glory days!!!

Yeah playing in Orlando after that sucked. We should have been in the Sugar Bowl and would have been under the current system.

That was such a great game.

2017 and 2021 were so fun to watch. They just wanted to beat that arse no matter who they played. Great Senior leadership on both teams.

I still think the 21 defense would've challenged 2011 Bama for best all time if Adam Anderson didn't frick up. They were the Defense I dreamed of through all those lean years in the Richt era.

BTW, the 2017 Oklahoma offense was nuts. Every time I watch the 1st half of that Rose Bowl, it's just dudes wide open everywhere and you have no idea where the ball is going. I have no idea how we beat y'all

Didn’t lose 82 natty on a Hail Mary. Penn St (Blackledge and Kurt Warner) built a lead and never trailed despite Q4 UGA comeback.

Lost ‘81 Sugar Bowl to Pitt on Dan Marino’s 4th down bomb.

Attended both losses as UGA student.

It was a 33 yard pass. Not exactly a bomb unless you consider that my heart exploded.
My girlfriend now wife and I were in attendance for that game and the previous year's win over Notre Dame. We wore clever but inappropriate buttons that basically urged Georgia to take a dump on Pitt.
